Hi Guys,

Another question lol. The next problem with the 'rada is the motor. it currently has 199 on the clock, with a new timing belt and waterpump. Problem is it has a blown head gasket/cracked head and the valve stem seals/rings are shot. I have a Head gasket set here with the stem seals etc but would i be better off buying a second motor and transferring the timing belt/waterpump and put the new gasket set on the new motor or should i just sink money into this one?
Cheers
Chris

Just pull the heads off and get them reconditioned. If the bores are really worn consider a recon engine or a rebore and possibly crank grind. I pulled the heads off my 240,000 Km TS V6 and the honing marks were still visible on the bores. Unless the previous owner did a rebore just before I bought the car, I doubt if your rings at 190,000 Km are "shot" as you say.

I would not waste my time and money spending over a grand if you do this yourself on getting heads done, for a S4 motor to have a blown head gasket there would have to be questions about the bottom end as well

Now as for the Blown Head Gasket, can you elabourate a little and let us know how you know it has a blown head gasket as it is not usual for a metal base gasket to blow

One last thing, I ahve several fairly low mileage motors here as well you may benefit from

Thanks for the replies,
All i know is that the oil is really milky, which leads me to think that water is getting in the oil somehow. The coolant looks ok still. I have a feeling that it had been overheated, because the waterpump was pissing water when i brought it. The stem seals i think are stuffed becuase it sat there for nearly a year. Madmagna How much would you charge for a low km motor?
