Hi. I feel so disgusting for posting in here :P

My g/f's car is a 93' Verada and it's been annoying the hell out of me.

Sometimes it'll start and sometimes it won't. You can leave it alone and come back to it in five minutes time and it'll fire up first go. When it does run it'll run fine. Occasionally when she stops at the lights, the car will just stall.

The thing is all this happens when I'm not around so it's making it difficult to fault find the problem, and I'm jsut going from what she's telling me.

I've checked all the plugs on both the transmission and engine. I've confirmed there's spark, fuel and air.

Things I'm yet to do is check the cranking voltage when turning the engine over and spray all the connectors with a contact cleaner.

Are there any other things I can check while I'm looking over the car tomorrow?

Cheers.

Check the idle speed. Should be about 1,200 rpm cold, 750 rpm hot. Controlled by the ECU through the ISC (Idle speed control) motor on the throttle body. If its way off on its idle speed, replace the ISC. The V6 usually idles well and should never just stall. I assume you have checked the MAF and inlet ducting for leaks? Plug on the MAF sensor not connecting properly can cause this too.

I've checked that all the plugs are seated. But I haven't used the contact cleaner on them yet. She just got home and started complaining about it. Finally got it to stuff up. Car idles at 500rpm. If I'm at a standstill with the foot on the brake and turn the steering wheel the car stalls. I've seen a few threads about this so I should get the answer from there.

try doing a stall test

How's that done?

Drives normal. When I goto stop at an intersection while still in drive it stalls. If I have the A/C on it won't stall.

there should be a screw near the end of the throttle cable pivot

adjust that to increase the idle

Ho Hum. You didn't hear a word I said. You need a new ISC motor. In the meantime you can keep the revs up with your right foot while you have your left foot on the brake when you sit at the lights. Just search this forum for ISC, lots of posts.

Stall test is to see if your torque converter is ok. Nothing to do with your idle problem.

Ohh yeah, the screw adjusts the idle I know that. Doesn't the ECU adjust the idle speed or that just in the 3rd gens?

Might grab one from the wreckers tomorrow.

Yes, do that. It should fix the problem.
