Hi all, heading back on the motor way yesterday crusing at 100km the car revved out and lost gear while in drive.

i pulled over and realised that i had no gear selcetion at all. the revs would change slightly between gears but the car wouldnt move.

i have had a search and it seems like i have a failed spring from some pump meaning i need a new gearbox!

2 questions:
1- anyone experienced the above and can confirm that it is a failed spring which destroys some pump in the box.

2- my car is a 2002 sereis 2 KJ verada XI, i always thought this was a 5 speed auto box, but the numbers on the cluster only go up tp 4, so im guessing this is a 4 speed?

thanks for your help in advance.

hey mate its a 4 speed auto. i had the exact same thing happen to me last year. what youll find is that the torque converter has stripped the teeth inside.the gearbox is fine its the torque converter that let go. but wreakers only sell boxs and torque conv as a per you cant buy them seperatly (well over in NZ here anyway) so i got a set and only replaced the torque conv. and was sweet as from there. :)

Hope this info helps you

It's a zero speed box at the moment. It needs to come out and get looked at, or replaced. If you get the model number off the gearbox you will be able to identify what is is, or rather, what it was before it broke. Madmagna can get you another, give him a PM with the model number.

As mentioned above few causes are possible, wave spring issue is quite common, basically a cushion spring with time breaks apart due to metal fatigue & eventually finds its way past the internal filter, once it goes past it will most likely destroy your pump. It happended to me, i went for a reconditioned unit all up it cost me $1,800. Second hand option is cheaper around $600-800 but then you can only hope second hand box wont suffer the same fate.

And yes you got 4 speed auto

Just FYI if your car is a 4sp auto its a MY02 KJ not a Series II ;)
