View Full Version : Haltech Interceptor/Piggyback ECU Tunes for 6G74 Magnas?

Hey guys, I'm planning to install my soon-to-arrive Haltech Interceptor into my magna, I was wondering if anybody out there has tunes for the Haltech Interceptor, or even possibly take photos of their ignition timing and fuel tables (for other piggyback ECU's). Maybe even base tune / proper tune standalone ECU maps? Something I can compare with?
I've been given the base tune and the exact wiring diagram from Haltech, so I have somewhere to start!
I'd like to have a play with my interceptor before I finish off the rest of the mods on my car and getting it tuned by a professional. Yes, I know its a lil risky to play around with tuning, but I'm ordering Detonation Cans and a wide-band Air Fuel meter. If I do blow the motor, it'll be a good excuse to finish off the rest of the mods to my car.
I have pacemaker extractors, a k&n panel filter and 2.5" catback exhaust, that make up the engine performance mods - for now...
Anyway, anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Hints? Tips? What-not-to-do's?
Oh yeah, what AFR should I shoot for at different load points?? Different AFRs for WOT to 1/4 load I'd imagine...
Thanks y'all!

WOT for now I'm running about 12.5-12.7 AFR's and timing in the upper RPM's is about 35deg advanced. Tune is an old one though, but does the job fine.
you really need to whack it on a dyno though, makes it 10x easier, just a prick forking out the $$ per hour to use the damn thing.

If I recall the Haltech manual correctly, the base tune will effectively make the interceptor transparent (i.e. it effectively does nothing) until you change it away from that.
I picked up a second hand unit some time ago, but it came without the CD and I've been too slack to chase up getting copies from Haltech (at least in part because I've decided to try and mod the stock ECU rather than install the interceptor). Wouldn't mind copies if you're prepared to email...

You might find Merlin's EVO 7-8-9 Tuning Guide (http://evoecu.logic.net/mirror/merlin/Merlins%20EcuFlash%20EVO%207-8-9%20TUNING%20GUIDE-V1.7a.pdf) useful, though the boost related stuff won't be (at least immediately) of direct interest.
Also recommended to get an OpenPort cable so that you can log stuff from the stock ECU, as well as logging from the wideband - I got mine from Evoscan (http://www.evoscan.com/) and I got the Evoscan software too.
What wideband setup are you looking at? I'm trying to decide between a TechEdge (http://wbso2.com/) (2COB or 3A1) or a Zeitronix (http://www.zeitronix.com/) (ZT-2).

Thanks guys! Anybody got any other spare maps lying around??
I'm still doing research on everything, not set on an AFR meter yet.
Just realised I'll need a laptop as well...

I'm using an AEM UEGO wideband, fantastic product which I'll recommend to everyone.

Base tunes can be gotten from Haltech, just email them. I'm looking for modded car's maps.
PLEASE!!! Need maps!!!

just qurious to know. why an interceptor?
surely an outright ecu replacement would be better?
haltech platnium 2000 with a patch loom.
i might ask my mate at haltech to see if they can do it (dont see why not really)

1. Expensive to buy
2. Expensive to tune
3. Lose stock features of car/total bitch to have simple features such as cruise control working etc....
4. Have the ability to remove the unit and return the car's ECU stock in 30 Seconds.
Considering getting the stock ECU tuned by Steve knight to include bigger injectors and all the mods on my car, and then have a couple of finer tunes (98 Octane, e85) that I can just swap around with a laptop.

Hmmm you and I think much the same.... ;)
Except do it with the haltech... much easier to swap tunes around.. i'm assuming

yeah, but then your computer fuel trip meter will be off by the % that the injector size has increased. it counts the injector cycle, not the actual flow rates of the injectors
and id want the factory ecu to be runnable without the haltech, just incase i get in trouble with le po po's, i can yank the plugs out, short out the interceptor pins with another plug, and look dumbfounded towards the officer when my magna runs like a heap of shit...
"sir, its just a magna thing, they're not really that great" :P

Yeah haha, i did mean using the haltech to swap between e85 and 98 octane tunes. I'd get steve knight to do a benchtune, and I'd street tune the rest.

Whatever you do before you even think of tuning is get a wideband and knock sensor. 2-3 hours on tge dyno for wot tuning should be sweet. Each car is diff and a tune from someone else may end up worse on yours tbh.

Bump! Wideband to be installed next week, and have ordered my knock sensor. Anybody got any Haltech Interceptor Choonz (Tunes)?
