Howdy folks, my wife just went to the baby shop to choose three car seats to fit in our TL sedan. In our BF falcon we have a five year old in an anchored booster, a three year old in an anchored child seat with harness, and a one year old in a similar setup.

The baby store was not interested in helping out due to some bollocks concern about their advice being wrong and not wanting to be legally responsible. What do they think I am, a freaking yank?

Anyway, if you have a mix of car seats in your third-gen magna (three of course otherwise it's no hep to me!) let me know what you've got fitted!

The baby store is just following the instructions from their public liability insurer. Litigation lawyers are hungry for business. Legally if each baby/child seat is correctly installed as per the instructions there are no problems and all must come supplied with complete instructions. They will also have instructions attached to the seat.
As we are grandparents and have 15 g/kids we sometimes have 3 seats fitted in the back - some are simply booster, some the back to front baby type and also the traditional safety seat. It is a bit of a squeeze fitting the 3 in and you have to do it so the you can easily strap each kid in, otherwise you just about break your back trying to connect the straps. Whoever designed some of those straps needs re-training. So we have the biggest/eldest kid in the middle where he/she can assist or do his/her straps, the next least difficult seat at the drivers side and finally the most difficult seat - usually the back to front baby seat, on the passenger side so you don't have your butt out in the passing traffic.
Sometimes it's a bit of a circus!

Thanks mate, I'm more interested in what brands/models of seats you're using though!!

The age of the children pretty much determines which type of safety seats/capsules are required by law. Most of them come with attaching methods for centre point and lap/sash mounting, or at least the kits are available separately. Shop around for advice, RACV would be a good place to start, as are websites of the manufacturers.

You're going to find it tough to fit 3 seats in the back of a magna.

RACV won't be able to help you much as they'll only be able to help with fitting them, but I assume you can already do that as you've got them fitted in your Falcon. Width is going to be your biggest concern & you'll find that some of the better ones will be too wide. Especailly those fitted with arm rests etc.

Try searching on the safe n sound website, they give you the nominated widths of the seats that they sell, not sure if others do the same. Although I think your best bet to fit all 3 in may be to ditch the anchored booster seat for the 5y old & replace it with a booster cushion. Put it in the middle & put the 2 child seats on either side.

A good store should be able to assist you with a simple test fit, however. You only need to place all 3 seats in the car & close the door to see if they fit. Either try to find another store or go back to the same one when they're not too busy?

a five year old in an anchored booster, a three year old in an anchored child seat with harness, and a one year old in a similar setup.

We have a 5yo, a 4yo and a 1yo in the back of our TJ regularly with no issues. I'll ask my wife what model our seats are, but fir better information on what other people use, search for a forum called "Strollers and Prams" (I think that's what it's called) or "Essential Baby" and poke around on there to see what other people (mostly mothers) are using.

Easiest way is to measure your back seat width (with the doors closed, armrest to armrest) and have a look to see how wide seats are.

Hope this helps,

Cheers, Greg.

OK - ours are all older models so not much use quoting models/brands except to add that they were all Aust made. If you're looking at new seats you will be aware that good ones cost around $300 to $400 so we usually source ours second hand in the under $30 bracket - there are always a few to choose from at garage sales or the classifieds. We go thru 2 or 3 a year as usually someone borrows one etc and it would cost big dollars if we bought new.
