My cars developed a slight tapping noise
Sounds like metal against metal
Only occurs under low rev's when taking off from standing still
Have looked under my bonnet all around the engine bay and cant see anything rubbing and touching anything
I thought it was a busted engine mount but have replaced that and the nosie is still there (engine mount needed replacing anyways)
Any help would be great
Cheers
In reverse as well ...also with clutch fully released?
My car is doing similar - did it majorly for a few days 3 months ago and then I didn't hear it again for ages.
Now for the past week it's come back. When I drive off, either straight ahead or turning, there's a soft rattling noise from the front left corner.
Sometimes it sounds/feels like it's from the wheel, sometimes more towards the centre of the car, but always the left hand side.
Just from the sound I'd say CV joint, but I couldn't reproduce it when turning at full lock and the mechanic couldn't find any fault at service time.
Since it's first happened, I've been driving soft, hard and in all sorts of conditions including drag racing at WSID, so far there's no problems (touch wood).
It will be interesting if either of us find a cause. I was going to check engine mounts next.

Could just be the disc pads moving about in the calipers, if the pads have metal in them they can stick to the rotors overnight and move about when you take off. You could check that the shims are in place and there is no freeplay in the pad mount on the caliper. If that's the problem its pretty harmless, but there are some anti rattle compounds available that will stop it. If the shims are missing or not locating the pad firmly on the caliper you need to attend to that.

Not sure if its the brakes as I forgot to mention that i can reproduce the noise with the car idling and moving the accelerator cable
Had a quick look and saw a looses wire with plastic harness which might be the cause
Will see if anything changes
Thanks so far for the info
