Hi, I have been searching through the forums for a while now looking for something on this topic but was unable to come up with anything.

I was going to put a H1 HID kit into my hi beam on my standard headlights. But after taking out the globe I noticed it was in a white holder so the clip could hold it into place.

If I just put a H1 into the light without this white holder then the clip does not hold it in properly and it just flops around.

Has anyone done a conversion on their H1 hi beam? And if so, any advice?

Mine didn't fit the standard bracket either so i fabricated my own out of coat hanger lol, actually ended up working better than the standard bracket..

i just used that to hold it in....
a metal one would be better tho, the rubber flexes too much, making it kinda hard to allign

cut the gromet off....if your plug had a white connector, you can discard that, but ,you will need to source a couple of bits of small rubber/plastic squares to make up the difference in the height of the white plug,so you can use your existing wire clip

thanks guys
i was thinking maybe a h7 would fit. i was comparing the shape of the white connector and the shape of a h7 base and theyre quite similar.

i tried putting a h7 globe in the hi beam just to check if it would fit but h7 globes are fatter that h1.
are h1 and h7 hid globes the same size? just a different base?

well there is your problem in a nut shell high beam on std lights is H1..H7 will never fit...totally different shaped base..for std lights H4 for the low/high and H1 for the high inner

Go to your local hobby shop and buy a length of Piano wire (spring steel) and fabricate new retainers yourself.
Best to do this with the lights out of the car so you can see what your doing.

The HID bulbs are all the same, just a different base moulded on. You want H1's for the inner high beams on the standard Hella lights.

thanks,

i tried with a h7, sat in there quite good but it doesnt have the 2 raised bits on the base like the h1 so it could quite easily move and break the globe.
i might try glue some washers together first. if that doesnt work ill give the piano wire a shot

Here you can see the wire retainers I bent up

How I mounted the rubber boot on the HID bulb

These are on Parabolic headlights but the Hella's should be similar.

All I done with mine was bend the metal clip that holds the globe in and it sits in there perfect
