Hi Guys.... Long time no Post..... Which is good cause the Wifes Magna has been running like a dream.... (Touch Wood).

Anyways, on her Car, TL MAgna Wagon, I noticed the Brake Pedal Vibrating/Pulsating in which I know I'm up for a new set of Rotors and Pads.

Now, I've had bit of a Search around and alot of people are either doing a 380/evo upgrade and/or going Green Stuff Pads/DBA rotors etc etc....

I don't think I will go as far as one of the above upgrades, so I'm just after a set of "Standard" Rotors and Pads.

Repco/ Auto One and the like advertise Rotors and stock Pads, Bendix etc! Is it fine just to buy what they have available, or should I be looking elsewhere??

Thanks in Advance Guys

Milo

Hey before you buy new rototrs check if the old ones can be machined, that will fix the problem. You dont need to change rototrs just because you are getting vibrations when braking. The only time you would need new rototrs is when the old ones are too thin to machine.
cheers

What he said.. 100% going to be the rotors needing machining. Should cost you around $50/pair (removing them yourself) - at least does here. They should be able to advise whether they are OK to machine as well or too thin.

I'm in the same boat and need rotors for my TL - what I'm going to do is wait for the 20% off day at SuperCheap...usually boxing day. I'm not bothering with machining as the logbooks say it was done at 60K plus it works out to cost about 60% of new discs. I reckon mine are distorted/warped due to overtightening by rattle gun wielding tyre fitters - I needed a 1.5m breaker bar to undo mine. AutoOne and Autopro also have discount days.

Buy the new rotors and pads by all means, but buy a torque wrench as well. 95-100 Nm on wheel nuts (on original steel rims). And keep the rattle guns away from the wheel nuts!

But seriosuly its a waste buying new rotors if old ones can be machined you will get no benefit whatsoever!!!

I managed to get a set of DBA425 for $135, Bendix GCT for about $70 (was quoted $92) + $15 delivery from Bursons Newcastle to Medowie (Feb10).

I haggled a bit on the pads. Got about 90 000k out of the original set.

When you only have one car it's a bit tricky to do DIY so I did not see any point machining as it would have worked out just as expensive. By the time you run around back and forth to a workshop plus fuel costs this suited me plus I still have the originals I can machine anytime if I need to do it again some day.

I've used RDA also before and no problems with them either.

Good luck with Supercheap, unless you have a Commodore or Falcon I find them not very good for bits and REPCO are ripoffs most of the time.

Oh, check out you guide pins, mine were seized but I suspect water must have got in.

I just put twin pots on my KJ wagon which were off a Legnum VR4 and let me tell you now- they stop a shit load better and alot smoother than the pathetic single pots on such a heavy car.

Worth every cent, but I guess it's a bit too late now!

Yes that would be nice. What year model? direct bolt on I assume and was this with the original rotors or did you have to upsize?
I was thinking of playing with this idea for 1994 Galant I'm doing up which only has the singles but car's 300Kg lighter!

You could also try our main sponsor, cheaper than the above prices for RDA and QFM which are far better than any Bendix pad lol.....

Facelift Legnum VR4- direct bolt on! No need for new lines etc. I did get new discs and pads tho, to suit. The area size of the discs- there's no comparison
