View Full Version : Conversion
Hay all
My misus owns a TF auto 3.0l. The engine has had it and im buying a 3.5l of a mate really cheap. I was wondering wat exactly do i need for the conversion.? Will the 3.5l engine be ok the the 3.0l auto box?

if you can get his GB too that would help, makes is easier to just drop the both in
Apparently if i use the TL ecu i will have speedo problems with my car cause apparently its got some kinda speedo feature in the ECU that the previous models dont?
Can the 3.0l auto box handle the 3.5l engine ok?
Ive been told a TJ ecu will fit straight into were the origional tf ecu was is this true?

Physically they have the same mounting setup, and the connectors weren't changed between the models (though there are different connectors between autos and manuals).

Well if manual boxes are anything to go by, the 3l manual box takes the 3.5l easily.

Is not easier to swap trans to start with, the engine can come out easily leaving the trans in the car, no need to take out the trans
Yo will need the engine pipe and top alt bracket from the 3.5. Use the 3.5 injectors but use the 3.0 top manifold and injector harness and air con bracket. Aside from this is all plug and play, 3.0 trans is not any different from the 3.5 trans
Use the 3.0 ecu, it will learn and the larger injectors will make up for the differnt ecu, the pulse from the 3.0 and 3.5 is actually quite close thus why they work so well anyway
The TL ecu is no good to you as the TL has a very different set up not only for the speedo but the final drive, the output shaft sensor will pick up the difference and send your trans straight into limp home mode

dont forget the drivers side intermediate shaft bearing.. 3L bearing mount will not bolt onto the 3.5L block...
get the whole drives side drive shaft from the doner car if you can.. less hassles...
