Hi guys and thanks for looking at my thread, the problem im having as per previous threads is when the car has aircon on, the radiator fan spins, when its not on, the fan wont spin. Now I have had various people tell me to replace the sender unit on my car. Now I bought the gregorys manual and there are two parts, 1) The Tempreature Gauge Sender and 2) the coolant temp sensor. Now directly from Mitsubishi they told me that all the sender does is connects to the dash and makes the temp gauge go up and down. They then send that the Coolant temp sensor is the one that talks to the computer in the car and when the car gets to a right temp it turns the fan on. So today I spend $150 for a new Coolant Temp Sensor and wouldnt you know it, NOTHING CHANGED. I am really starting to get annoyed at this thing, can anyone offer some advice please.

Thanks

PS: The guy at repco said that this happened to his car and he just unplugged the coolant temp sensor and the fan then works, and as god would have it, the second i unplugged it without the aircon on, the fan came on. ADVICE PLEASE!!!! Anyone that can solve this for me, I will send you money, im not kidding! It might not be alot but I will send you some!

What about the temp sensor in the bottom of the radiator? Have you checked/replaced that? Turn the aircon and fan on with engine off, unplug the sensor, and short the two wires in the plug. The fans should spin up. If not check the connection on the air con compressor.

Ok this is news to me, What temp sensor is on the bottom of the radiator? Can you tell me where to look for it, there is nothing about it in the gregorys manual! Dont suppose you want to send me your phone number if you want you can email it to danieltrewin@dodo.com.au thanks!

If worst comes to worst you can buy a bypass switch from jaycar to turn the fan on at the flick of a button.. rather a drag though

Ooops! I assumed the 3rd gen had a temp sensor in the radiator like the 2nd gen, but it doesn't. Just checked the manual and looked at my TJ. I think it has been shifted to the engine, in which case you may have already replaced it.

There are two fan relays in the fuse box you can check.

I would assume to check the new sensor you allowed the engine to get pretty hot?....I know may seem obvious but most cars have temp sensors that do not switch the fan in till 10deg after the thermostat is fully open - which is 95C if you have a 85C thermostat fitted. So the engine has to be pretty hot. Also the fan should spin with the connector removed as this is one of the tests on generic senders - yours does so the wires/ECU end could be OK. So hopefully it is all OK and the engine just didn't reach the 'switch-on' temp (fingers crossed)
Good Luck.
