G'day people

I have a ts wagon that a corroded welch plug under the inlet manifold.

What I need to know is how the hell do I undo the two allen key bolts that hold the

manifold bracket in place?

cheers Ken.

Unless someone has stuffed about with it, these should be normal 12 mm bolts, on a 2.6 anyway. Only way to reach them is with a flexible extension, but then its impossible to get them back in. Might be easier to find the bottom of the bracket and unbolt it from there. Its attached to the top bolt of the intermediate shaft bearing carrier.

I've had the intake manifolds off both a TS 2.6 and 3.0, and believe me, there are no allen key type bolts anywhere!

If one welsh plug is leaking, you might want to replace all of the ones on that side. Good luck pressing them in!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I guess someone in past has replaced the 12mm,s with allen key bolts. The one on the drivers side I can get an allen key into but it is so damn tight.

The otherone I have know idea how I,m going to undo it.

Once again thanks for your input.

Cheers Ken.

The allen key bolts are standard and a real PITA to get to with the engine in,bad enough with the engine out

If you can get hold of a socket with the allen key part attached and the rounded end to allow some angle, these usually do the trick

Has been a long time since I did the welsch plugs but you are best to do all of them, if one is gone the rest will not be far away, they are located above and below the balance shaft casting as well as the one yo have already leaking, from memory the larger one is 40mm BUT I may be wrong, most parts places will have the listed

I,ve just managed to remove the inlet manifold. It turns out I don't need to touch those allen key bolts.

Madmax was right there are a couple of 12mm bolts hidden up underneath the plenum.

That is it for today it's drink o'clock I'll finish it in the morning.

The welch plug is bigger than the 45mm one I had, I'll measure it tommorow.

Thanks a bunch for all your help.

Cheers Ken.

I used to remove the engine to replace core plugs on the intake manifold side of the engine.
