I went for 'a spirited drive' ;) last night, on my favourite stretch of quite bush road in the middle of the night.
i came out the other end and pulled over to meet up with mates and to my amazement, smoke was billowing from my wheel wells, my brakes were glowing red and the SRS light on my dash had illuminated. whats going on there? i don't imagine srs having anything to do with brakes?
and i understand that the smoke was just stuff burning so dont worry about that.
on a side note, will i need to bleed my brakes? will the brake fluid have boiled or anything??

Brakes get hot. Depending on the pads you have, they can smoke a lot. You don't need to bleed your brakes if they feel ok once cooled down.
Hooning wears out your car. Mmmmkay??

When your brakes get that hot, yes they will boil. I recommend upgrading to AWD/Ralliart/380 brakes ASAP! If you are hooning that hard to have brakes that "glow red", you really should save up some $$$ and install Brembos...

yea k i was already looking into brake upgrades anyway, but does anyone know what the 'srs' light is all about. it turned off 10 seconds after i noticed it. was it just the airbags primed to deploy?
i noticed that in my car under 'spirited' acceleration the drivers seatbelt tightens, not just locks. is it some sort of pre-emptive safety feature?

I wouldnt really ask him to do it again, what ever you call it "spirited, Nos mode, or just plan hooning" shouldnt be condoned, unless you are out to give AMC a bad rep with forum members who have kids who walk on the road.
With that said, you can always just get a pair of Slotted Rotors, as they are designed to cool more efficiently but with that said its more costly in the long run, due to how quick you go through the rotors.

Ok,
Lets clear up a few myths here
For starters, slotted do not cool any differently to non slotted, the slots are supposidly there to help gasses escape from the pads as you brake, in my opinion and that of many in the trade these days, slotted rotors are more a gimic, my wagon has non slotted rotors and have not had any fade issues with my brakes, I have 380 up front and std solids at the back end. The QFM pads do a great job when hot as well
The SRS light, I would say was just coincedence, may have an issue with your clock spring perhaps and this has shown up with your "sprirted driving", will be interesting to see if it re occures
As for the comment of do it again and take pics, can you please keep useless spam out of the tech sectinos as per the title of this section.....
Brake upgrades are easy, 380 are a fantastic set up as are on a lesser note the AWD, I ahve today purchased another AWD, a TW that took a swim (apparently AWD's cant float) so depending on how bad it is when it arrives, I may fix it as there is absolutely no body damage at all or I may wreck it out if it needs ECU's etc etc as I know the engine is shagged. If so there will be another set of AWD brakes avail
