Hey guys,

My new sound system is almost complete, the final thing on the list to do is get a new double din headunit.

I'm looking to spend about 3-400 bucks, I feel this should be enough (will consider 2nd hand also) considering i'm not after any crazy features.

What it must have:
3 pre-outs, preferably > 2volts, so front, rear, sub
Can take dvd's as well as usb input
must be able to play most file types like divx/xvid.

I don't need gps, and it doesn't really need to be touchscreen, but touchscreen preferred.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I scored a $1800 single din DVD/ unit from JB Hifi for $300 earlier in the year - it was a run out model. It does everything you mentioned or better, so see if any stores have old models that they couldn't get rid of for Christmas. :)

Also check out Shopping Secure's new offering :)

I'm going to check out autobarn and jbhifi on boxing day as last year they were clearing out a clarion double din which did everything i mentioned for $350, marked down from 1200, so gutted i didn't buy it.

I'm testing double din DVD models at the moment. I could very easiliy get a unit which has the features you want. I added you to MSN, chat to me next time your online. If your still looking I'll put you through a few options which I want to get tested and offer some attractive pricing.

JB Hifi has 30% off car audio as part of its post-Christmas sales.... should be able to pick up something good there.

Only a 4" screen, but it has a decent res (480x272) and a good frame rate.
Has front/rear/sub rca out.
usb/sd in, supports all your usual formats (xvid, divx etc.).

Installed it this evening, runs really well (no noticeable decrease in SQ) and does everything I need it to do. The only issue I have with it, is that the remote amp wire is the same as the antenna wire, so the power antenna is now always "on", regardless whether i'm on cd or tuner.

I'll still be keeping an eye out for a nice touch screen, but for now this fills the double din space quite nicely.

Good stuff.

Re, the remote wire for Antenna - on a previous car I just put a switch in the wire and mounted in the dash.
Then I had manual control over the Antenna which was great for car parks in the almost 1.8m tall 4x4 but antenna was over 2m and hit lots of stuff.

Yeah for now I think i'll just suck it up, although I was tempted to unplug it completely, seen as i don't really listen to the radio all that often (sound quality difference is really noticeable.)
