Go to the wreckers, buy another gearbox for $100-$200, get 5L of new fluid and a gasket kit - $70, take out the old, put the new one in (day job) and hope the gearbox you picked isnt knackered aswell.
For someone like yourself TuffTR this may be an easy job, but for others well.
I have just recently replaced a trans on my daughters TR because the second gear band was gone.
I have replaced gearboxes and trans before but I found this was a tough job. Personally I would just buy the kit for the overdrive. This job can be done without taking the trans out. Just removing the driver side wheel.
just make sure that it is only the overdrive.

Thanks for that info, link is very informative. I imagine a TS 3.0L autobox is the same.
An overdrive kit well here in Adelaide was only about. $85 I was quoted around $200 to get the whole job done. At first we thought that it was just the overdrive that was gone on ours,,So we priced a kit and priced to have the overdrive done in workshop,,but it turned out that the second gear band was gone and that was causing the overdrive to not work. To have the second gear band fixed was big Bucks workshop wanted around $700. So thats why I brought a second hand trans $300 and PRAYED like hell that it worked. Its easy for the wrecker to say if it doesn't work just bring it back. After you have gone to all the trouble of pulling the old one out and the putting the new one in, if it didn't work I would have burnt the bloody thing
