Hey guys, first post. My car has had this problem for maybe a year now and i think its time to fix it.

If i put my foot down, the revs will rise slowly to about 3000 and the car has very little power, but once it gets past this it kicks up fast to maybe 4500 with a lot of power and it feels like im in the fast and furious.

maybe the first 50% of travel in the accelerator seems to be equal also; any amount of acceleration in this range will be about the same.

Other than this the car seems to be fine.

Its an auto btw.

Does it change gears at all? Sounds like it is stuck in limp mode.

yeah it changes gears fine. it drives fine while cruising, just really super laggy and unresponsive acceleration

I had a similar issue that slowly got worse over time. Big flat spot till about 3000rpm then it would suddenly take off.
Replacing the oxy sensor fixed it. This happened around the 150K mark. Interestingly fuel economy wasn't really affected...

so one of these (http://www.cyberspaceautoparts.com.au/contents/en-uk/p82_Mitsubishi_Oxygen_Sensor.html) ?

I would probably recommend taking your car to a good repairer or Mitsubishi dealership for an initial diagnosis. That sort of flat spot could be an oxygen sensor as stated or possibly an air flow sensor or tps. But it also could be something more basic like a bad vacuum hose, faulty ignition lead, faulty pump etc.

Oxy sensore CAN NOT alter acceleration in any way as the oxy sensor is ignored all the time except pretty much on cruise.

It MAY and only May be possible that in the above case that the sensor was that buggered the ecu had been compensating way too much but it would be a first for me that is for sure

I would be looking at dist etc as well, not to be rude but if you do not know what a vac hose is, you are best off going to a workshop as there are far more complicated systems on teh car past the vac hoses and no there will not be a diagram on the bonnet of a Magna

For the moment i have same problem too! Reading this i remembered when i had a look on my engine bay couple weeks ago, i've seen a vaccum hose with a crack on it! Try to replace the hose 2day and let you know how it goes!;)
