Hey guys, new to the forum and did some searches, but mainly came up with idle related issues. I've got a really tidy 98 Verada (I think its a KH) with leather, and its probably one of the nicer cars to ride in I've owned. I do a lot of travel and its a great mile eater. Its totally stock down to the very ugly wheels :).

This vibration issue only occurs when driving uphill under partial throttle, and only appears to occur in overdrive (even though at really low revs it's done it in other gears). It feels like a vibration that it transmitted through the whole car. If you give it a bit more throttle or get it to kickback it goes away completely.

The gearbox is only about 36000 kms into into service life (they get done every 50 or so?), it been serviced right on time it's whole life and certainly doesn't get flogged. It's got around 140k on it. Its done it since I got it at around 115k, but lately it appears a bit more obvious, especially with extra people in the car.

Happy to go get it checked, but just thought the knowledge bank might be able to help point me and my workshop in the right direction.

Cheers all!!

Hi Drag_Verada,

I'd suggest checking spark plugs & leads. My Magna experienced similar symptoms shortly before its 105K service, after which the problem went away. Plugs were replaced at that time.

Could also be the the lock up clutch slipping. I had a TR once which I swore had some fuel/ignition misfire issue. Only ever occurred in 4th when accelerating light to medium throttle when the TCC was locked.
It went away after I disconnected the lockup solenoid which was suggested by a mits tech as he felt it was the Torque convertor clutch grabbing and releasing repetitively and was a known issue at the time.
Did not do the performance or fuel economy much good though.

Hi Drag_Verada

I had an identical issue to yours with my TJ 3.5l Magna, and it was torque converter shudder.

Had the auto transmission specialist do a full fluid flush of the transmission, and put in a Shudder Stop additive, the problem has gone away...

Good luck with the Verada!
