i entered the wrong code on my tp se wagon radio and now it doesn't seem to clear. whats the fix? ive disconnected the battery and will leave it overnight but im wondering whether that will do the trick?

also wondering weather the lights mounted in the doors would be on the same fuse as the 'room clock'. use to have a problem with it blowing all the time but another dash fixed that. now it blew again after i remover the rear door light because it had a dodgy wire connection that use to short. may just be coincidental.
thanks

thanks mate.
im unsure of the brand of radio because it is nothing like the ones listed in the book (both mine are tm books because there was no tp ones at the wreckers). its a tape deck with no additional equalizer or anything. different to the ones on earlier tm+tn models. does the ignition need to be on in one continuous drag or on and off for a total of 3 hours?
i might pull her out and get a model number and brand. also look if the plug is the same as other radios i hae not than any of them are going to be much better with the negative ground speakers.

In the TJ-era OEM head units, you have 3 tries at the security code - after which you need to leave the key on for an hour before the set will let you attempt another code. Stop/Start with key will jusr re-set the one hour countdown. Just out of interest, if you pull the head unit out post up if it is a single plug connecting the radio to car loom in a TP or is it two plugs? Mitsi used to use a 2-plug standard (which I expext will be in the TP) and more recently have gone to a single-plug standard for connection of audio head-unit. Sites like Install Doctor give a "decode" of the plugs used ie: what wires go in what position in the plug.

thanks mate. ill give it a go. ive pulled it out and its got a single connector with 8 wires. Ive got another newer radio that im thinking about putting in but will need to decode the wires as you say. i can easily pick up whats ignition on, bat feed, lights ect anyway.
seeing as its a nagative ground system will a newer cd player ect be able to be wired strait in or do i need to run ground wires to each speaker? ill probably replace speakers too if i bother to do that.
thanks again

Seems like the workshop manual for 1st gens is either out in the shed, or lost. I'm heading away from parent's farm back to work in the morning...... was gonna look at the wiring diagram. I'd sort-of forgotten about the neg ground speaker issue. If the more modern head-unit is meant to have a ground wire to each speaker, then you'd better run wires, I guess.

In the TJ-era, the car loom has a pos and neg wire to each speaker in that loom connector BUT there is no ground wire for the head-unit in the loom, the OEM head-units are grounded thru the chassis. In a 3rd gen if you add an aftermarket head unit, you mostly have to run a ground wire to a convenient screw or bolt somewhere behind the dash (there are several convenient spots).

I know my original TN radio-casette died and I put a Philips one in, and later I had a TP which I think I grafted a Ford head-unit into (there was an ED Falcon head-unit I liked with backlit buttons and a joystick balance control which gave me jollies)...... buit its so long back I forget what I did when adding those head-units. I'm pretty sure I didn't run wires, but I cannot be sure. Apologies!

Buy a $100 MP3 capable head unit, no stuffing around with codes, and it will include all the wiring details. Or keep your eyes open for "for sale" threads here, I picked up a nice Pioneer for $50 (retailed at $300 last year, $500 or so when it was new in 2006) from a member a week ago. Best to run double wiring for + and - to each speaker. eBay is a good source for cheap speakers.

thanks for the suggestions! i stuck a standard neg ground am/fm tuner i had from a modern crapoler in there for the moment but will invest in something decent when i sort out a few other things. i might run the wires now seeing as 1/2 of the interior is apart.
ive got 2 good speakers i found on the rubish collection that were brand new ill stick in at a later date as well.
ill also try and get the other one working so if inayone has the problem in the future there will be a solution.
cheers!

i bought a head unit from the wreckers for $30 yesterday and installed it. the earth wire to the rear speakers was not a problem i just ran some 2 core appliance wire down the left hand trim and up through the dash. i didn't bother pulling the dash apart so i installed some new speakers i garbage picked under the dash to save the effort. it sounds great even with the old speakers although dont know how long they will last seeing as they are only 8 watt and my head unit it 50 each speaker!

lol Brings back memories. Plenty of room under that dash to hang a couple of speakers! Speakers should be good, just don't turn the volume up to the point where they distort. lol

i left mine on for hours and it never cleared. then after i pulled it out it still didnt clear until it was disconnected for about 2 months. it dosnt seem like there is an easy way to make it go away appart from a $30 head unit from the wreckers lol. ill have a look at mine tomorrow for you and try to remember what it did. too late now lol
