Hi,
Just finished doing the rear main the car and put everything back together to find that i appear to have no electricals. When i say this i mean i can't turn the lights on, dash lights, radio, fans etc do not come on, nothing comes on.
I've tested the battery with a multimeter and it's at 12.7v
I've confirmed there is current to the constant wire on the starter.
I can't see any blown fuses in the compartments in both engine bay and in drivers side footwell.
I have been on it for about an hour or two now and can't figure it out for the life of me
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,

I haven't looked at the electrics in my TE for a while, but I know in my first generation Magna, there are fusible link(s) close to the battery - they are just ordinary wires (with push-type connectors) that melt when there is a serious electrical fault.
This fusible link protects the whole electrical circuit EXCEPT for the starter motor.
Is the radio clock working?
Also, make sure the extra lugs that connect to the positive battery terminal make good contact. Just because there is power at the starter motor doesn't mean all that much really, since the connection is very hard to break and not even fused.

Thanks for your reply mate,
The head unit that i have show's no signs of life at all. I ran a test light over all of the fuses in the box in drivers side footwell and nothing came on. I would have thought there would have been at least one constant down there.
I'll take a look and see if i have any of these fusable links tomorrow. What do you mean by "extra lugs" on the positive terminal?

There a fuse box under the hood :) Check there as there are main fuses that supply the car with power :)

So you have no electrics but does the car start?
Were you playing around with any electrics when you were working on your car?
I'm alittle confused as to what you were actually doing on your car before this happened

Hi There,
Have had a look at the fuses under the hood already. I can't visually see any issues. Anything specific i should be looking at and i'll triple check?
I was doing the rear main oil seal so i was doing allot of things before this happened. I had to remove the battery, intake, and gearbox and put them all back again. I wasn't playing with any electrics before this happened, other than what i need to remove in order to get the gearbox out.
The car does not start. There is a constant wire that goes to the starter motor and i have confirmed that there is current on this wire which also confirms the battery terminals are not loose and have a good connection etc
Thanks again,
Mr_Roberto

Have you tried another battery then?
Battery might seem ok but you never know as they can die at random times

Yeah i have one of those portable jump starters.
I turned it on and hooked it up to the terminals and same thing happens.

And you didn't pinch anything while shifting the motor about?

Wrong polarity on the battery? Just sayin...

I went over allot of stuff and i couldn't see anything that i had pinched. If you know something that it might have likely happened to though I'll take another look.

The battery has power, as does the starter. Cabin fuse box has no power. Something is open circuit between the battery and fuse box. Try probing around the engine bay fuse box for a voltage and report back :)

Yeah ok I'll have a look tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far guys. Really appreciate it!
Has one of the wires come out of the (+) terminal? Not sure if standard they have multiple wires, but I accidently left the car power off once when trying to fit all my stereo power cables on the original terminal...

Yep that was it. When i put the battery tray back in it must have gotten caught underneath without me noticing. Taking it apart again i found it and bobs your uncle... everything works :)
Thanks to everyone for the helping hand.

hi mate,
why cost yourself more money if you dont need to.
take the battery to your local autoelec and have it LOAD tested. that will tell if the battery is ok and show if it needs replacing
cheers

Well, it's a bit late now, but I meant the extra electrical connections on the positive terminal that supply the rest of the car's electrics with power.
On my car, they are not pushed into the terminal, but soldered onto lugs and attached by the screw.
Glad it's working for you.

It's always a good idea to put things back the way you found them. lol

That reminds me - I still have 2 screws left over from the time I did my timing belt/pump.
Maybe one day, I should put them back! :)
