Will a set of stock TJ VR-X springs and shocks fit a standard (base model) TJ AWD?
How much ride difference is there between the standard models and the AWD's and/or Sports models?
Sorry, but I've only had mine for a month, so on a steep learning curve....

The FWD and AWD's share the same suspension setup, the part No for springs and shocks are the same for both. All mounting points are common to both.
Only difference is the AWD has a rear drive shafts.
Height wise, due to the AWD's being heavier, I think it may bring the height down to be comparable to King SP's

I wouldn't swap them in at all.
The AWD came with updated springs from the factory, as did the VRX/ Sports. The drop will be the same as what you have now- if it drops further, it'll only be because the springs have sagged more than the ones you already have.
If you want a lower/ firmer spring look at the King Low SP -will drop it about an inch more than it is now, or a Dobinsons Low - a similar drop, perhaps 10mm more.

Thanks folks.
I'm happy with the ride height, but am wanting it to handle better through the twisties - it's got a bit too much body roll for my liking.
I was considering going with the Pedders Sports-Ryder set-up, but a lot of people on here seems to say that they're crap?

To be honest mate, you're better off with going something aftermarket.
The difference between the suspension I'm selling and the suspension I replaced it with (King Lows + KYB shocks) is pretty big.
Pedders aren't particularly well liked here. I'd go with a set of King Low SPs (a little higher than Lows, and probably better suited to the AWD with its extra weight) as well as a set of KYB or Boge shocks.

Thanks for the feedback folks and thanks for the honest reply Red :)
Can you recommend a supplier in central Qld? I'm at Blackwater.

If I remember, Blackwater is close to Rocky? if so go see the guys at Dobinsons, the make springs for our cars, I have a set in mine and I find them way better then the Kings I originally had. As for shocks, go Boges.

Twisties? In Blackwater? Who are you kidding :P
Kings/KYB/Boge are all pretty common brands, any suspension store (apart from Pedders, since they supply their own product) should be able to supply and fit them. Someone in Emerald would have to be able to do it.
Alternatively, AMC sponsor Mitsfix can supply all these brands - check out their forum section if you want to know more. They're based in Melbourne though so you'll obviously have to arrange your own fitting.

Just as a datapoint, I fitted standard height Lovells to my TJ AWD and pretty much replicated the original ride height (ignoring sag), but gained a firmer ride and much reduced body roll.
Keep in mind the extra weight in the AWD will typically increase the drop of aftermarket springs (compared to the FWDs they were developed for) by 10-15mm.

My TJ AWD also has standard height Lovells springs. To my eye, it looks to have the standard ride height even allowing for the LPG tank. The ride is firm but not uncomfortable and the standard shocks have been replaced with KYB's.

Blackdowns Tablelands (30-odd km's away) - the access road is great, provided there's no-one coming the opposite way at the same time... Night-time is good; at least you get some warning with the headlights. :oopssign:
Blackwater is about 200km inland from Rocky; not my fav spot to be, but work is work.
More looking to do then (Dobinsons, Lovells,????), or maybe wait until I get home next and go see Mal.
