Hi Guys,

I have located another differential (see other thread) and from what i see i have to pull the gearbox out?

I have a few queestions regarding the removal:

Is it easier to remove the motor attacted to the gearbox or just the gearbox itself?

How do i get to the bolts behind the inlet manifold for the engine mounts without having to take the manifold off?

do i even need to take the gearbox out to replace the differential?

Any insight/abuse/tips are welcome

If you have a hoist the whole lot just stays on the ground while you raise the body shell.....

this is a 380 but yours will be similar i imagine.

If you dont have access to a hoist then do just the gearbox....

Yes, the gearbox has to come out.

Yes, the gearbox has to be opened up to get to the diff.

Yes, the gearbox differential needs to be set up - back lash, tooth engagement pattern - that requires tools you don't have.

Yes, its a shit of a job.

(Blackstar, you are going to need new tyres soon.)

If you have blown a diff, you're most likely looking at a full transmission replacement.

When I cracked mine open I found: Broken diff (absolutely mashed), chipped tooth on crown wheel, and missing teeth on output shaft gear (Caused by diff teeth finding their way between the crown wheel and output shaft gear).

To give you an idea .... my transmission was professionally removed, pulled apart, LSD installed, reassembled & placed back in the car for $950.
