just wondering bout the differences in the base magna engine and the sports/vrx etc, theres a difference in power somewhere round 30 kws and i was just wondering if this would be due to cams, ecu tuning etc....

and i just looked at some contraversial material, can someone tell me bout the cam set up in the year models >96, i wasnt aware there was a DOHC set up and is the SOHC set up on the 3.0L v6 two single cams over two banks of three cylinders???

Do you mean between the Ralliart and the Exec?

The changes were (I think) compression, cams, extractors, ecu tweaks, and probaby a few other things I've missed.

The only 30kW difference is between the Ralliart and Exec. 155kW Exec to Sports / VR-X is the muffler.

first i thought it must have meant the diff between the earlier 4 and 6cyl !! (TR 2.6 98Kw, TR 3.0 130Kw)

3rd gens don't though :doubt: . And is every one sure the only difference between exec 3.5 (155 kw) and VRX 3.5 (163 kw) is the rear high flow muffler? 8 kw is a very large gain from just a muffler replacement, theres gotta be some thing else they changed between models :confused: .

Yes. Well, I gained 11HP at the wheels with my muffler.

Sexed: There were some "minor ecu tweaks" as well so mitsu says. But the ECU adapts on it's own anyway. The stock muffler is very restrictive which is why it's so quiet, you do get a substansial gain from swapping the muffler.

I'm pretty sure those ECU tweaks were with the cam update some where between the TH 3.5 and the TJ series 1.5. The VR-X always had 163 but the difference the muffler made show's that there's a reasonable difference between it and the initial models. So, yes, when compared to the first models there was this ECU tweak and cam upgrade but not between the S2 VR-X and similar models.

6G72-S4 - 3.0l all the way. I'm thinking I'll upgrade the engine. It will still be 6G72 though.

so which models get the s4, whats the difference excusemy ignorance?

Sorry, nothing special. The TR-TS's have the 6G72 and the TE-TJ's that have the 3.0 are the 6G72-S4's. The S4 is the difference between the 12v and 24v.
