i actually did this yesterday lol
not all that complicated....
i used these at 8000k, amazing!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150512002357&viewitem=
anyhow the hardest part is making a custom surround, i just went to the wreckers and got 2 of the high beam bulb holders (they are the same in parras and normal 3rd gen lights, try to find the black versions of these, maybe from different years? they are almost hollow compared to the solid white ones!)

took em home and hollowed out the centre and slid the hid globe into the hole, then went nuts with electrical tape, would be better with heat shrink but u didnt have any.
just make sure that the hid globe once in your custom surround is lined up correctly for the h1 pattern.
all up it took me under an hour from start to finish, all you really need is a drill and a grinder...
good luck mate!!

What the.............to start with ,you dont even use the original bulb holder to start with...
The HID bulbs will simple sit in the existing headlight............the ONLY mod you have to do ,is make up a spacer out out of foam or rubber to sit on the HID globe to make up the difference between the height of the old bulb holder that you are now not using, otherwise the spring wont close down on the bulb tight enough
mmmm have reread your post, are you saying that you drilled out the bulb holder ,remove the pins and then threaded the globe through....??
that would work, though ,what's with the need for the electrical tape then ??

i actually had mine in with rubber washers and it was shit house!!! the things just wernt a good tight fit, no matter what i tried.
i had to cut down the side of the original holder to get the wires through, as the connectors are bigger than the hid itself!hense the electrical tape, and its as solid as hell!
the rubber washer was ok at first but just gradually came loose, and im quite happy with the way ive done it now, ill put up some pics tomorrow!
