Hey all,
Just need to confirm something, does my TJ S1 (normal 4 speed auto) have an external filter? Reason being, I just booked it in for an auto box flush (as per Mal's say so!) and Mits Elizabeth wern't sure on the quote because of the change over mid 2001.
It's $180 without a filter, and $218 with a filter.
Cheers, Greg.

Mine is a 2001 august TJ, should be an update exec, no external filter. lol Pop the bonnet and look, its on top of the gearbox under the air duct, look for a cannister. Not hard to miss if you have one. lol

Mine is a Sept 2001 model, and from looking under the airbox and snorkel, no filter!
Yay! It's going to be cheaper!
Cheers, Greg.

No you cant change internal filer, well you can but you have to open up the box, its not a serviceable item. its not designed to be changed. All its there for is to prevent large object from entering (eg. broken wave spring), which its not very effective at .....

My 2001 August TJ has the casting for the external filter, but its not used. The internal filter only gets changed when the box is ripped apart for repair, when . . . . . . the wave spring does its usual thing. lol
Old joke alert:
Q: Why is it called a wave spring?
A: Because when it breaks, you can "wave" goodbye to your gearbox and you need to "spring" out about $3K to get it fixed!
[I know, not funny really.]
If a TJ was made in september 2001, its officially called a Series 1 update model, not to be confused with series 2 though.
Meh.
Whatever.
As long as that mofo spring doesn't break.
lol

Don't say stuff like that! Knowing my luck, it'll break half way across the Nullabor! :(
