Somebody saw you coming! No way that's a $1100 job! The $95 would be for one and if you are not local to them postage would be a fair bit. But still . . . . cheaper! They are advertised as "new" but they may well be recon jobs.
But no, I haven't bought driveshafts off eBay.

$1100 was the cheapest quote i got in newcastle nsw. that was mobile and they removed the parts and fixed without me lifting a spanner.
$95 is per side. says so in the add ;)
MadMagna has complete shafts for sale - I think the price was about $110 each and $15 shipping, so a pair would be $235 for parts.
Assuming your mechanics paid the same price, then $800+ for fitting doesn't sound right to me either.

There is a crowd called Driveline Services which originated in Brisbane but has grown and now has a newcastle branch. I've never used them to replace shafts but have done a few reboots and found them reliable and fair price wise. They specialise in power steering and anything driveline related. I'm blown away by the $1100 price you state, hope I never need any driveshafts whilst I'm in newcastle.

should be half hour work for drivers side, 45 minute job for passenger side plus oil for gearbox plus call out fee
=
160 (labour)
+
30 (oil, depends on how much comes out)
+
235 (parts)
+
80 (cAll out)
= $505
he either got genuine mitsi parts, or charger you 7 hours labour.........
and i dont see why those cvs wouldnt be fine. all generic now anyways. they wouldnt be as good as oem, but good enough.

Probably. A mobile mechanic would not shop around for the cheapest, as its not his money, and he would be in a hurry.
If you catch it early enough, drive shaft problems often just mean replacing boots that have started to crack and split. A few hours work, $60 for a full set of boots, (maybe a bit extra for the crimping tool if you get those sorts of boot kits) and you are good to go. No need to spend $1,100, but that's just me.
Reminds me - time to check the boots on the 3 Mitsus. Only takes a few minutes.
Done, all ok. I only check the outer boots as they are the first to go, when one of them splits I replace the whole lot. Done it twice now, on different cars, a walk in the park (after the first time).
EDIT: Nope done it twice on the SAME car. First set came from a Mitsu dealer and cracked real quick. Old stock, perished in storage, so i had to do it again. Grrrrrr.

I got charged $300 a few weeks back for a complete right driveshaft and labour, and I live in WA! And you only got the CV's replaced.....damnnnn!

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a pair at that price if I needed some, but the postage may bump it up a lot.
Might be interesting to see how much that is TuffTR, seeing you are an "international member". lol
