Hey guys
Recently bought a VRX and the headlights are a bit dull and yellow looking in places..
how can i clean them or at least get rid of the dullness? ive seen in kits at autobarn etc but is there a cheaper option? cut and polish maybe? i don't wanna damage the surface with trail and error!!
thanks

For my TJII and the wife's KJII I've used Meguiar's PLASTX clear plastic cleaner and polish. It's a liquid polish for clear plastics and I was very happy with the results.

I've used the Mequiar's product and also the Mothers Plastic polish too...they both work effectively, but know that it is not a permanent fix, the yellow/haze does come back over time, in which case you polish again.lol

+1 to that, as long as you have the one piece parabolics, PlastX is the way to go (the two piece are glass so obviously a plastic polish wouldn't get you very far). It's as good as risk free, unlike other headlight repair kits which require you to sand your headlights back.

I sanded mine back on the TL with 1000/1500/2000/2500 wet and dry and then buffed them and it came up a treat. Only reason I sanded though was to get rid of the remaining scraps of clear coat so if yours is completely worn you could get away with just a polish.

I used mother's plastic polish on this Toyota Sera headlight on the right. It's got a plastic front lens and these discolour majorly.
The car is a 1990 model and this was approx 2009.

I love this Mothers product - cost about $13 from Supercheap or Repco and I've done the headlights twice now, plus a few other plastic bits that look like new afterwards.
Would a clearcoat on them help protect from UV rays for a while, or end up more trouble than its worth?

If your headlights are really bad and you really want them to look as good as new then id recommend using one of those headlight cleaning kits from autobarn. I got one the other day coz mine were really bad and they came up almost brand new.

There will be some sanding involved but everythings provided in the kit and theres also a sealant as well which is designed to protect the lens from uv rays. Considering your headlights will look as good as new its not bad for forty bucks

I have used car wax for the headlamp lens, and they work as well.

Just don't get any kits that require you to sand it down first! I learned the hard way and had to buy a new headlight.

I can fix these for you if you're keen on sending them to me.
Will have them looking brand new again.
Sanding isnt bad for the lenses, you just have to know what your doing and the limits of it.

Mine turned out fine, just have to make sure you take your time between grits and keep your strokes in the same direction.

Thanks guys
i try some normal car polish and it cleaned up a little.
I still want them looking alot better, so might try plastx on them..i would rather not used sand paper on them as i can't afford new lights if i make a mess of it.
They look so much better once cleaned up though
Thanks guys
