hi guys,
i am experiencing CD player problems lately. the cd would skip while playing songs - no related to the driving. Same song one time plays perfect another skipping.
I tried to cd player cleaning cd with only little success - kipping came back in couple minutes.
I booked for service with Mits dealer so just checking if there is some trick to it and save time going there.
any ideas?
cheers

Is it only on this particular CD or all?
Is it mp3 format and is it commercially produced or a burnt compilation from home?
If it's only the same song on the one disc that does it then it won't be the player. the disc could be dirty, scratched or damaged. If it's a bad burn from your PC then you can have this issue but generally it'll be a constant problem in the same spot.
I have fixed some of my discs using car polish to clean up fine scratches. I hate to think what the dealer might slug you with for servicing the CD. What you've done is probably all they can do too as it's more than likely outside their scope of work.

yeah its all cds no matter... they are mp3 burnt on my pc... but one time the songs are all ok - next time its skipping. CDs are without a scratches.
when i was booking it in - i asked if its covered in warranty and they said yes. so I hope they not gonna charge me - i think it should be warranty, no?

Oh well if it's warranty and it's all discs then yeah let them sort it out. What would be an intersting thing to try would be to reburn one of the known troublesome compilations maybe using a slower write speed and see if it gives you trouble. Maybe even try a different brand of blank media. Obviously this would have to be from your master copy and not from the already burnt disc.
Do normal music cds(not mp3) playup too? The only issue I can see is if they'll have to prove it's the unit and not the media. Hopefully it'll playup on the day they test it otherwise if it's intermittent, they probably won't play ball.
I picked up a brand new single disc unit for about $90 from leftover 380 stock due to the shutdown. Touch wood, no issues except when I have a badly burnt CD.
Would you believe I saw a box of 3 go for $30 at Greys Auctions.

thanks for ideas - i tried slow burning of my mp3 and the same result ;-( I am trying normal CD today and will see what happens - but I am thinking maybe to change unit for something with USB and use harddrive ... well but I kinda like the operation on the steering wheel... so I hope they fix it ;-)
I have the 6 CD unit - are there any left of these?

Well I think you've covered all bases then and you obviously know what you're doing.
lol Boy how I wish there were, would have gotten that one instead. Fitted into my TW nicely which I had the upspec 6 stack cd only unit. The only ones I saw on Ebay were singles and I had a quick look and can't see them anymore so good chance the seller is out of them.
That stuff would have gone from Grays quite some time ago as well.
There were parts posts of OEM parts in Adelaide being cleared out but that's all gone too now AFAIK. Bugger.

my bad - i ll try to harass them a bit - although i just realized that its still under 3 months 5,000 km warranty from the dealer - and they are the parent company of the Mitsubishi in sydney (or something like that) they fixed the seat before i traded my old car in... so I will try them to see if they can fix it ;-) or find solution

I've had probs with home burnt mp3 CDs too.
Definitely try a commercial CD or two first.

Commercials are all good. Only some home burnt; usually my son does them for me and it just depends on the program or computer he uses!

That's usually a sign the DVD burner is worn out/not tracking correctly as it burns and the CD reader looses the audio track. A common problems with DVD burners that get a lot of use. lol But they are cheap these days.

Well the CDs are playing perfect in my wife's car. my cd/DVD burner was hardly used so I think it's the radio
Have you tried one of those laser lens cleaner discs with the tiny brushes on the recording side to clean the lens in the cd player?
