Had a thread about a stuffed bearing in my air con, I've decided that for the time being I'll probably just bypass the compressor as I hardly use the air con anyway.

Trouble is I'm finding it hard to find a smaller belt to suit. I measured it up and I need a 6PK1000 belt instead of the usual 6PK1200, but I'm having trouble finding one. I have only checked Supercheap and Repco so far with no luck. Has anyone here bypassed their air con compressor before? maybe you could tell me where you sourced your belt and save me running around like a headless chook :rofleek:

Seems that a Porsche 944 uses the same belt so if all else fails I can order one through the local Porsche dealership, but knowing their spares it is probably special made from 10,000 baby seals and costs $1000 from germany. :P

try rockauto.com, seeing you have a make (Porsche) and a model (944). Simple. Hell, I could do that for you . . . . . BRB

DAYCO Part # 6PVK0990, $8.21 for 1991 944 Porsche.
QUINTON HAZELL Part # QBR61000 Number of Ribs: 6; Length [mm]: 1000 $6.72

If you are prepared to spend $1,000 on one, i will import one for you and pocket the change. Deal? lol
Notice: No baby seals harmed in looking that up. lol

"headless chook" indeed! lol

I NEVER buy locally until I have checked out the rockauto.com site. The ancillary belts on the 3.5 3rd gen are a similar price ($6 and $9), go ask a Mitsu dealer for their price just as a joke.

Or you can also try local places such as sponsors lol

I can get these no issues, I am sure the freight will not be near as much as the the freight cost from the US to Aust

now, the bearing, you are sure it is no good and the belt is not jsut too loose?

True I forgot about Mits-Fix, last time I work a 70 hour week.. leaves you a bit brain dead :kb:

If you could get back to me sometime this week with a price for the belt and posting to Canberra ACT 2906 it would be awesome!

Also yes it is def the bearing, I took the belt off and spun the air con by hand and it is very rough.

So when the A/C compressor is cycled off you have lots of noise and when the compressor is spinning you have none?

Nah mate it's there all the time, although a bit quieter with the air con on.

Actually the rockauto postage is very reasonable and still came in hundreds of dollars cheaper then buying locally for the exact same product.
Plus it came pretty quick too.
Cant recommend rockauto.com enough.

The belt will be here tomorrow, will PM you the details although if is there when aircon is on and comp is running, is not your comp bearing, is either alt bearing or the idler pulley bearling, either way, I have what ever it turns out to be. Try to tighten the belt a little more, see if the noise goes and also take off the belt and give the idler pulley a good look at as well

I had the car running without the belt on and it was whisper quiet. I spun the alt and it's smooth, also the tensioner pulley is also smooth as glass.
Air con might have more then one bad bearing, its very quiet when on but I can still hear a slight whine. Once the air con is off it sounds like a strangled goat.

Either way I'll grab the belt off you just PM me when you get a chance.

Thanks.
