hey guys, in process atm of doing my rocker cover gasket on my 99 TH 3.0l and when i took off rocker cover there was no gasket at all there which is why my oil leak is pretty bad i guess but the gasket that i got looks way too thick for it, it's prolly about 1cm thick and just looking at it i can tell the rocker cover bolts wont have enough thread to get close to the holes. I'm guessing its the wrong gasket if anyone can confirm but how thick should the gasket be so nxt time i get the right one

Sounds to me like you haven't removed the old gasket yet. It sits in a channel on the rocker cover and may need to be scraped out with a screw driver or something before you try to insert the new one. The old gasket will be quite brittle and hard and this may be why you think its not a gasket as it is no longer soft like the new one you have. Hope this helps.
Cheers Luke

I would also assume the same thing as Luke, if the gasket is too hard it could be almost totally recessed into the rocker cover, i know my old one was somewhat like that.

takes a while to chip them out when theyve gone hard like that.
while in there flush degreaser through all the PCV vents and tubes in the top of the covers , make sure theyre clean.

Use carby cleaner, will break down the solid dirt and grime MUCH easier then degreaser.
Which is why carb cleaner takes off paint, degreaser doesnt:P much harsher solvent
