Guys,
I'm looking at driving up onto one of the mountains in the near future and I was wondering if snow chains will scratch my 17" VRX rims?
Just looking at this picture, the "spokes" on my rims could be a problem.

Hey there Dan.
Bad news mate, yeah they would make a beautiful mess of your nice rims. Wouldnt even try it.
Also, if you have lowered your car then you might also have problems with guard rubbing. I have a KH which i put chains on and that was rubbing the guards badly even before i lowered it. Would have no hope of fitting chains now.
Maybe look at a set of cheap second hand steelies for the snow or something like that.
Good luck.

If you read the manual.. Sports and VRX cannot use snow chains due to the suspension set up I think... :) ..
Edit..
Then again.. your's is not either right? So I think it should be fine :)

Forget it; hire a 4WD, or an AWD that won't need chains.

Guys,
Thanks for all the replies.
Mine is not a VRX and hasn't been lowered. I'm not worried at all about guard rubbing (there is buttloads of clearance) more-so what it might do to my mags.
I guess I can only ask at the chain-hire shop and maybe do a test-fit to see if they will actually touch the rims, or if I can get chains that will only touch the rubber.
Thanks again,

I would say that the chains would stuff up your mags as they are alloy.Get a set of steel rims with a set of normal tyres etc.,

We put snow chains on our Magna Sports and I got a pic to prove it. But that was on 16" so donno bout 17". The only problem we had was that the car had too much power and we ended up breaking the snow chains  $50 deposit down the drain
My dad said the Traction Control did a better job than the snow chains but oh well.
Otherwise, was great fun going to the Snow :D Just make sure you understand how to fit the chains nice and easily or else your fingers will freeze off.

I sure hope you're right. I'm heading out to Mt Hotham next week in my TH Sports. I
