Clear tail lights look the sh*t and are one of the hottest thing going round in this forum, or so I've noticed anyways.
What I wanna know is that if anyone who has the tail lights and has told their insurer had any insurance issues (ie. paying a premium) or has everyone just done the dodge and not told em at all?
In fact, has anyone had any problems or issues with em? Insurance or mechanical (?) -wise. I love their look but if I chuck em on and stack my car (knock on wood... or something), will the leeches void my policy?
Cheers!

You can bet that if you were rear ended, the other driver's insurance company would be trying to dick you on the tail lights not meeting ADRs.
So far I've gone along the lines of not telling them... but I've never really thought that hard about it too..
What I do know is that they can be rather picky when it comes to claims... When my old commodore was pinched they wanted me to produce a proof of purchase for stereo gear that was recieved as a gift about 3 years ago....

If you fit non-ADR approved equipment, then technically your vehicle is no longer roadworthy, and technically, an insurance company will only pay a premium for a roadworthy vehicle, hence, you may have issues here.
That said, I have headlights from an Audi TT on my TJ so meh. I do plan on getting them engineered when I get a chance...

Also, if you were to fit the clear headlights, and fitted red retro-reflectors to your vehicle in the correct places, it would be legal - you can talk to a RTA signatory for more info.

I thought clear taillights would help your cause because you can tell the insurer "how can the other person not seeing me stoping" etc?

Not really - you do find that in bright sunlight, there is far poorer contrast between clear 'altezza' style lights and normal translucent coloured lenses - mainly due to the fact that there is less reflected light.
There are varying qualities of the coloured coatings on the bulbs too - ie. red bulbs that look pink... On some cars, the altezza blinkers are really difficult to see in sunlight!

I told my insurance company about them and they said if i hit someone and the tail lights aren't seen (or the cause of the accident) then they will cover me.
If someone rear ends me and said it was because of the tail lights then they won't. But it will depend if the drive who rear ends you will pick up on them.

In other words, unless they ever make an ADR approved version (not likely) then its not worth the risk.

ive told my insurer,
same situation as blake - however my car is insured as a "show car/not daily driver" so its not so much of aproblem - cos everything is covered, weather its legal or not - the only catch is because of my classification of insurance - if something "not roadworthy" "caused" the accident - then i have to prove i was enroute to a car show - as really this is the only time its fully comp. :doubt:
its confusing but yer, in a nutshell - same boat as blake!
ps - blake, you must be talkin bout your old TE, cos these lights on a VRX would look.. um weird?

Yeah this was when i had my TE.
Some people can handle the risk to look cool, i certainly could and they were the sweeeeetest thing about my old ride
