how do you stop a tail gate from rattling?
i have adjusted the striker but it still rattles!
apart from filing the striker out to get more adjustment what can i do

With out looking at the car in front of me I would say by the sound of what you are asking that you have an issue with the striker on the gate or worn hinges

Mine is snug, it did rattle a bit when I had the old tail gate seal on the car but I have installed a new seal and is good now

How are the side dampers or the 2 rubbery wedge blocks either side? Maybe they help preload the door. Maybe there's some adjustment you can gain out of these as well.

No issues with mine, absolutely nil play when closed but it's probably too young to be giving trouble. Rattly number plate is about my only gripe.

Stating the obvious here but maybe it would be better to find a donor wagon with fresher bits if yours has done a bit of work. If both the striker and the latch mating parts are worn or elongated then I think that will make it harder to get it nice.
