S2 Tj VRX, bought it at 57300kms about 6 months ago
It now has 66300kms so ive decided its time to get a service
Guessing i just want a standard service but how much am i looking at paying? just so i dont get ripped off. I have a 2nd year apprentice friend that can do the service for free and stamp my book with the stamp from his holden factory but not sure if this would be wise as i dont have the tools to check everything in my own garage.
I live about 1 hour south of sydney, if anyone knows good places around here?

Do it all yourself, I can give you a hand if you need. That way the next time you need to service your car, you can DIY and in process, you learn precious LIFE SKILLZ!
What needs doing for your service anyways? Do you only do oil changes when the book says? It may be a good idea to start doing them every 5-7 Thousand Kilometres.
If you have any questions just PM me on Facebook dude.
BTW, thanks for guiding me to the cruise meetup on sunday lulz. Hope you guys enjoyed my zorst

only at a guess judging by your k's , if you want to really look after your car, you should probably be changing your, brake fluid, coolant, tranmission fluid and fuel filter, which from memory should be done every 45,000kms or unless it has been done prior , as for basic service i would assume it would be in the vicinity from 100-180 and i wouldn't be paying anything more considering what is actually done. but like tjtime has said, do it yourself, so much more satisfying ...

Ok thanks guys, i was thinking 200 so ye not far off.
The book shows the last service at 57000 and next one needed at 75000, considering that difference would take me around 15 months ive decided to get one done earlier.

18 thousand ks between services? WTF?
HaydenVRX
31-01-2011, 06:18 PM
the book suggests one at 60thou which was done at 57, and next in the book is the 75thou, so if i went by the book it would be 18000, and im like hmm i think ill halve that.

The service book will also recommend a time for the next service, apart from a km figure - usually 6 months from the last one. If you're only doing 15,000kms a year or less you should be doing it every 6 months or so - which you are!

Shouldn't be paying for anything other than parts... and some beer... and some sweet tracks... well you can just download the last one but yea put the others together and huzzah you have yourself a fine recipe for a DUI... DIY service!
You do know how to change oil yea?

Oil change is easy mate, I did my first one ever last year so I remember the angst haha The only thing you can do wrong tho is pour in the fresh oil prior to putting the sump plug back in.
To change oil:
Warm car up for 5 mins (you want the oil warm enough to move freely and quickly, but not so hot that it burns!)
Undo top cap
Undo sump plug (probably best to position oil tray first)
Grab sump plug out of oil tray (or just dont drop it in there)
Take off filter
Wait 20mins
Put sump plug back on
Put new filter on
Put new oil in
Replace oil cap
Have beer. Theres prob a diy on here or in google somewhere. The only other thing is how much oil to put in, that I dont know for magnas. Its prob 4-5L, and definitely on here somewhere

Standard Mitsu service according to log books is every 15, 000K's but like most i halve mine and do them every 7,500k's there should be a section in your service book that suggests this on the page over from specified due service, if you wanna look after your car i'd be doing them every 7 and a half thousand, also dont let just any one do them if like me you cant/wont learn to do them yourself, as im lazy and just take it to my Mitsu dealer here in sydney.

Next service after a 60k is at 67500 which is just an oil change, washer fluid top-up, service reminder reset (if applicable) and a vacuum (yay!) as recommended by the service manual, or every 6 months. The better mechanics will also do a quick underbody/wheel inspection and tyre pressures.
If the previous owner has been following the manual continue doing so, just make sure 45,000k service items have been done as well (you never know). From memory a service special (which is a standard service) is somewhere around $180 where I am at.
On another note, changing the oil and filter is very easy to do, if you do decide to DIY, make sure you use JACK STANDS and not the jack to support the car (or wheel ramps & chocks).

25k service. shit the car wouldnt last long haha. especialy if its givin abit.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, but my Dad's TF went almost 100k kms without a service, from about 80k kms to 167k kms (orig timing belt too ). Was still running fine when he traded it in, the only issue was he was getting pretty bad tappet noise, but I reckon that's more likely due to the old oil. These engines are very underrated in regards to reliability.
OP - If it's just an oil change service, 1-200 from a mechanic would cover it. I know many on here DIY, but some of us just don't have the time to do what WE want, nevertheless do our own servicing :).

Best way to learn is to get down and dirty and do it yourself. No need to have someone there to guide you, read the manual and work it out for yourself. You don't need beer and tunes, just some self confidence and tools.

I work with computers not cars and I'd be scared to break something. My car is a daily driver and to have it off the road would be tragic..

Remember that a service is more than change oil and drive off. These so called 45 min services are BS as the car does not even get lifted off the ground
Things like suspension bushes, suspension condition, brakes, wheel bearings, steering joints, other leaks, exhaust etc etc etc all get checked. Have a car arriving tomorrow from a mits dealer to hve ecu and heater core issues repaired, they have always serviced this particular TH since new, they have never in all the years checked the heater core for leaks, a basic thing and they are trained.
If you choose to do your own oil, that is great but please do take your car somewhere at least even every second service for a proper check over
