my bro has seen the light and got a 5 speed 2.6 TR, he has a pioneer head unit that i'll install for him, can anyone let us know what the standard colours in the factory loom are?

i've done a search but couldn't really find anything.

(prolly a good idea to add it to the FAQ aswell)

thanks heaps

No idea - but it's not too hard to work out. Just probe it with a multi-meter. Red = Postative, Yellow = Const. Posative, two other pairs will be for the front speakers and that'll alsmost be everything.

Just make sure you put black to the chassis (where one of the screws are), not the negative that goes in there from the lights. You'll blow the fuses. We learnt this one a few years back the hard way.

Now that you're on holiday go down the the local public library and photocopy the page out of one of their manuals :D

i'm not too sure on this but,

black is neg/ground
green is positive
yellow is acc
black/grey is right speaker
black/white is left speaker

if you're not sure, mutimeter is your friend
hope this helps :D

Just look at the configuration on the existing tape deck/hu. You'll need a multimedia anyway to check the ground and all that otherwise you can get mega interference. lol i went to the library and photocopied the 2 pages on taking out the hu and putting a new one in, well worth the 40 cents. Took me an hour to work out you had to take the centre console off to get ot the hu :P.

Yeah as far as i can remember that sound right though i had

Two red wires were front right dash speaker
Two black wires were front left dash speaker

One Green/Red wire was constant power (i think)

my bad, i mixed up the color :) but i'm pretty sure the green with red stripe = positive and yellow = acc, black = ground.

i found TR exec is one of the easiest car to work with, less options = less wire clutter... :P you won't go wrong there mate, and good luck

sweet! thanks guys, this will be going in the next week or 2, i'll make sure i write down all the colours so we can perhaps start a database where people can do a quick search when installing head units... i know a lot of people out there do it all the time, but it's hard to find you're exact model!

and, BTW, i haven't had a look, but apparently the TR Exec's don't have rear speakers? is this true? how have other people mounted them? probably looking at 6" 2ways... don't really want to use spacers, so if theres not factory mounts i might make a custom parcel shelf.

Well mine didnt have speakers in the rear and i own a Tr executive, heres a pic of what straths put in. Im fairly sure they just screwed a mdf board over the 6x9 cutout, then cut out the 6" hole in the mdf or vise versa.

i wouldn't advice on using the factory loom as the power wire will melt if the HU is pulling too much power.
i had this problem last year and i could never figure it out until i pulled the whole thing out and i saw te power wire was cooked,

if you are using speaker connection i dont have a clue which color is which, but running new wires is always good.

For fcuk sake, i just looked closer, didnt even relise. Lol. I hate straths the way they ran my cables through my car was a sh*t job, i re-done that already  Plus the way they installed my old head unit, they didnt even use a bracket just had it sitting on the dash  , never going there again, from now on i use Tonkins :D

Mercury: The thing about the wires burning, Is it both the constant 12v and the power via the acc? Im still running the original loom
