G'day,
im very lucky in that a family friend has said he will donate his second gen wagon to me for parts for my first gen before he scraps it.
i want the engine because it was recoed not too long ago and is in good condition to replace my smoky old beast. i have come to the conclusion that instead of open up my bag or worms (commonly refereed to as the astron 2) its easier to replace it because im unsure weather its totally valve stem seals contributing to my smoke. this is because it is now smoking badly all the time instead of only at start up and has allot of water vapor coming out the exhaust and im not sending the head off to get crack tested or anything because thats money that could have done my brakes....

so anyway besides engine i will keep the tranny and all computers (efi and tcu) however i know the efi computer wont fit and doubt weather the tcu will fit into my car. i have heard that the tranny will if i modifie the connectors and such but is this true or do i need the wiring harness and tcu out of the second gen?

also i doubt things like cv shafts, brake calipers, shocks ect will fit but do they? he reckons it has 14'' tires on it that are 85% so i might grab them and get them peeled onto my rims if they will fit but who knows with that too.......

anyway any input is welcome. and if anyone can think of any other useful parts for mine please tell me. i know i need to change plenum and injectors over but apart from that it should be a strait fit?

p.s sorry for the long post but

14 inch tyres will swap

if possible grab the front wiring loom for the
connectors you may have to modify

second gen motor has a knock sensor
you may be able to use the first gen dissy

the second gen auto does have different locations
for the A and B sensor on the auto box

cv shaft s and diff might have different splines being a 5 stud bolt pattern
but worth comparing

interior seats wont swap differenent size on the channel

ok seeing as no one will pay money for the shell i might as well pull the whole front loom out of it so i can look at setting up the other motor with efi outside the car as a project...although dont like my chances.....

is the knock sensor something i can just leave disconnected or is it part of another system which i need to connect. i suppose swapping dissys isnt much of a job. dont know about exhaust manifold either. from memory the second gens had a 2 wire O2 sensor so that will need to be swapped?

as far as the tranny is concerned if the splines on the transmission side were different then i wouldn't be able to use it unless i cut and shut the cv's would i? which i defiantly wont be attempting especially before a road worthy.
