Hi Guys,
Has anyone experienced pinging when running 91 & 95 octane fuel. I have noticed in my GT 380 that at 60km/hr travelling up a slight incline the engine pings. This is when the engine is sitting on 1000rpm. However it does not do this on 98 octane. I would have thought that the knock sensors would prevent this from happening. When i mentioned this to Mitsubishi service guys they said the car was checked and nothing was wrong but recommended to run it on 98 octane every 4th tank.

No, I always run on E10 (95) and I don't experience that.

You could try a different servo just in case it's shitty fuel at the one you're at?

That is odd that it even happens on 95 RON. Something funny happening with the timing. Did you ask them if the timing was at specs?

I would try disconnecting the battery for about 10mins, this should reset the ECU and may resolve your problem. It is worth a try!

Maybe your knock sensor if faulty.
i could say try and swap it...but it will break your balls getting to it...it's under the inlet manifold.

Yep....Lower intake manifold aswell. Not fun. Although you should be able to hook up the MUT or whatever the **** it's called and see if the sensor is registering any knock.

Have you tried running some injector cleaner through it? I know running 98 should help clean it and E10 would clean it more than 98 because of the ethanol but the properties in the proper injector cleaner might help a little bit and is a cheap way to try. a car with no major engine mods shouldn't do that.
If it has been checked with diagnostics it should pick up an Oxy sensor fault normally, but may not tell you the compression ratings.

I have run several tanks of 98 octane in the last few months. However the last few 95 octane tank fulls has shown that it still pings. It is not as bad as 91. I once put 91 after 5 tanks of 98 and it pinged and rattled. It settled down after a while. I doubt it is related to injectors. The knock sensor could be faulty. I will ask the service people to check and advise the status of the knock sensor.
Thanks guys for your input.

might be a silly question but have you had the car tuned recently on 98 Octane? or if you had 98 octane in the tank when it was tuned? Just thinking that maybe the fuel air ratio has been better set up for when running 98 and it feels like its to lean when its not run on it.
