View Full Version : Fitting Keyless Entry.
G'Day Folk.
I want to add a Keyless entry system to the TR for convenience sake, getting a bit tired of using the key all the time when I'm so used to keyless on all our other cars (yeah I know, colour me lazy), has anyone had any experience doing this themselves?
I want to use the existing factory central locking setup, just add simple lock/unlock functions by remote with a flash of the indicators. Had a look at a few eBay systems like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Car-Remote-Control-Keyless-Entry-Door-Lock-Locking-Kit-/170543596672?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b530c480#ht_4066wt_905), any suggestions/advice would be welcome. Not fussed by having an alarm feature, they tend to be more trouble than they're worth and there's no real need for it.
Cheers :)

The Way i did it was install a full aftermarket system in mine, because mine didnt have factory central locking.
The central locking relay is located behind the driverside kickpanel under the fusebox. The wires contain a earth, constant , lock + unlock triggers.
Should be able to find out which wire does what with a multimeter, if you like i can have a look tommorow on what wire does what.
The Lock/Unlock is triggered by a negative pulse
Hope this helps

Sounds pretty straight forward then, I'm presuming I need to hook the keyless module into power and earth, then tap it into the relay for the lock/unlock triggers on the central locking, and into the hazard relay for the indicators. Sound right?

I got a steelmate aftermarket kit that was reasonable price. Also that the remote receiver range i have is incredible. Lock/Unlocking the car from 70+ metres away!! Impressed me.
They have kits which include actuators but seeing as though you already have central locking then just get the remote/receiver only kit.
The wiring diagram that some manufacturers provide can be a little confusing.
Probably the biggest drama i had was that my back got sore crouched leaning inside the drivers footwell whilst i wired it up to the constant, earth, ground etc wires inside the car.
All the best!

I bought a full alarm (http://www.crazysales.com.au/spy-one-way-car-alarm-dual-sensor-protection-with-remote_p640.html), but basically just didn't hook up the siren or sensors.
As per valitank, tapped the negative trigger of the central locking relay, check it first by earthing the lock then unlock pins, kinda cool watching it lock and unlock just by connecting two pins together. Or maybe I'm easily amused...
Don't know with the stand-alone system you linked (though looks like it's probably similar), but you may need to also tap to an Acc line, and also door switch (door open) line, to tell the system when you are in, etc., for the likes of auto-lock if you accidentally unlock but don't get in within X time.
The wiring diagrams are really vague, apart from the actual door-lock section. I looked up other manuals online, including brand names, and they were all the same! I think mine had two lines marked something like "flash"; that was all it said! I found the point to run these to (for the blinkers) was the back of the hazards switch, there's direct lines to the blinkers there that you need to tap.
One of the main issues I had was trying to find a place to mount it, and convenient places nearby to tap into all of the required lines. Centre console would be easiest, but there's a distinct lack of places to mount it there. Stereo wires are very useful for half of the wiring though.
Sorry for the rambly, vague post, but that's all you get out of me nowadays!
