So, I'm leaving the driveway tonight and between shifting out of reverse and into drive my button launches itself off and ricochets around the cabin.

The two retaining clips have snapped off from the body of the button. I'm thinking this should be either any easy fix with a trip to the wreckers, or, a trip to Mitsubishi. Anybody had to price one of these genuine?

Alternatively the trip to the wreckers could turn into a triptronic conversion? Assuming the wreckers wont let me take "just the button" and may want to sell a complete shifter. If I'm put in that position I'd consider shelling out extra for the tippy option.

I've used the search function, I'm aware that I'll need the shifter, the dash (optional?) and a wiring loom. While I like the idea of just shelling out for a button, I'd like to see a specific list of the parts required to switch from the conventional auto shifter to a triptronic shifter.

You cant suggest manual conversion either. As much as I'd love a manual transmission, I cant. Missing arm. I can still drive a manual... but, if you're the passenger it can get a little edgy.

Just to clarify;
1 - Anybody had their shifter button eject, and if so, what's the price roughly genuine?
2 - Can we get a clear list of parts required to switch to tippy shifter?

Five bucks from the wreckers sounds like a good option.

Maybe I should get a few - extra ammo.

I wonder what else on the Magna's "launches" itself off with a little age...

Yup, I've had that happen to. Not so much a "spring"... more like a fog of darkness descending rapidly. Had it replaced properly.

+1 Madmagna.

Funnily the same thing happened to me about 6 weeks ago. $6 genuine Mitsubishi part brand new down at the dealer here in Canberra.

I have to grab one of those too. I had owned the car for 30mins, was doing a steep hill start while turning onto a busy main road into a gap that was too smal, and bam, changing out of first the button is sitting on my partners lsp, after bouncing off the windscreen. expressions of shock and disbelief followed

Less than 10 bucks from mitsi for a button and spring and the little pastic thing that goes on top.

My spring and plastic bit was never found whet it went ka-spring!

Scored one today - $6.20. The guy behind the counter new the part number off by heart so I'm guessing its a common issue.

Part Number - AW351775
