My '02 VRX is randomly starting in Limp Mode.
Almost every other time you start up you won't feel the clunk into R and it is fine to drive in D - manual changing of gears works fine.
But then sometime on start you feel the clunk and it is in Limp Mode.

Anyone know any possible causes? I have to find the code - don't have access to a MUT (bought an OBD2 cable off ebay - tried a few diff sw's but none work - read that I need evoscan.)

Background:
In the past few months I had it going into Limp Mode and this was caused by a leaking heater core which I fixed.
The Limp Mode prob was fixed by Mitsu who said the replaced a 'relay' which had shorted from being leaked on with a used relay. (as they wanted me to come back and blow $800 on the heater core.)

I have the MUTTII here, can be anything from a dirty plug on the Inhibitor switch to an internal failure with solonoid or even leaking heater core which is leaking onto the relay and ecu.

Have done 2 this week, both cores where the Trans Relay was buggered due to being soaked with coolant, one had to also ahve the ECU replaced but the second was lucky as the plastic cover had been dislodged at sometime and was covering the complete ECU and nothign got into that one at all

I am happy to have a look, it sounds like your heater core is already leaking, if not fixed I charge flat rate of $350 including seals provided your core and pipes are ok, if your relay has been wet bet your bottom $$ that the ECU has had a soaking as well
