Hey everyone,

I've got a 1996 TE V6 3.0Ltr Magna.

I've recently noticed my fan belts on its way out so i went and bought a new one the other day but not entirely sure how to install the fan belt on a magna so does anyone have any guides to help me change it or know of anywhere in the christies beach area that would install it for cheap.

If not in the christies beach area even in adelaide all together that would install it for cheap.

Cheers,
Chris.

there is no fan belt on a magna. there is 2 accessory belts on your car. one runs the ac and alternator, one runs the power steering. the alternator one which i assume is the one that is slipping is changed by taking the frh wheel off, then the splash guard from inside the wheel arch. now follow the belt and you will find an idler pulley with a nut in the center (the pulley not connected to any other components as in ac or alt). loosen this nut, then proceed to loosen the bolt on the lower side of the pulley, but dont take it all the way out. this will loosen the belt enough for it to be changed, do opposite to re-install. make sure the belt is tight, but not over tight. there should be about 5mm bend when light pressure is put on the longest straight section of belt. if you start to here grinding noises or loud bearing noises once you have finished, you have probably dont the belt to tight. if it sweaks when the ac is on, it is too loose

Ohk well theres sort of a whirring noise coming from the drivers side of the engine and i assumed it is one of the belts and have been told it was one of the belts aswel. And its funny you say that theres no fan belt considering i bought a fan belt specifically for my car.

Hmm cheers for that though mate ill have to have a look and try that out.

There is no fan belt on a magna. The cooling fans are electric, so there is no belt to them. There is 2 accessory belts on your car. One runs the ac and alternator, one runs the power steering. Usually the term "fan belt" is taken to be a generic term for any external belt. Did the bloke at the counter ask which "fan belt" you needed? Falcodores have a fan/serpentine belt. <Minor point really>

I just went in and said i need a fan belt for a 96 TE magna and he looked through a book and went and got me a belt. He didn't specifically ask which belt etc..

OK Well he's got the point. It's a generic term like madmax said like how we all say we have "Mags" even though the wheels are not made of magnesium these days....

You have two belts though, So I hope you got the right one.

bellto wrote it correctly though.
You'll need a 14mm spanner
and if possible, use a 14mm socket on a 12" extension, it'll slide right up and give you the easiest access to do the belt.

Maybe the bloke in the service dept thought Vandal had a 2.4l (do they have only one belt?)

Nope, 2 belts.
Only cars to really run a serpentine like max said are the commo V6's and I6's falcons.
