Just put it in for the 210k service
Manufacturers Hand Book Service of 210,000 kms as per book including
Timing belt, Idlers, Hydraulic Tensioner, Water pump
All plugs (Platinum rear normal front)
Hoses if required
Idler pulley if required
Engine flush
Transmission flush
Air Filter
Fuel filter
Change all gaskets
Throttle body clean
Whilst up on the hoist realised that left CV Boot needed replacing, drivers side engine mount needed replacing.
Rear brakes
Whilst in there also getting him to source the grommet for my windscreen washer for which I had another thread here.
$$$$??
I know the mechanic for over a decade now, has always serviced mine and many of my mates cars so have left it with him without getting a quote first. End of today it will be two days to complete all this work....
Any guesses folks? Should I go via the bank on the way there? :hmm:

To be honest that's a fair bit, I'd be saying $1500-ish

Mine has done 75k, is nearly 6 yrs old, the dealer recommended a new timing belt, fair enough. I shopped around and K-mart auto quoted over $200 cheaper than the dealer. It's going in to K-mart next week, so I won't know until then what they're like, but the guy there seemed very knowledgeable about magnas, they do lots of them, etc. Give them a call.

Sounds like its too late for that.. but basically timing belt alone without water pump is often about $500 best case often a bit more plus you had water pump/etc.. add in plugs maybe $200 plus all the flushing etc.. plus brakes your looking maybe at least $80 for the set, plus labour plus maybe disk skimming - $40.. etc.. $1000-$2000 i'd say.

Not sure if your mechanic minds using supplied parts but you can save a heap on parts, I can provide most parts less than trade
For example, the drive shaft boot at $125, I can supply a complete brand new drive shaft for that much, other things like complete belt kits with all idler pulleys etc are much cheaper than you will get in most places
From what I quickly read above, you are doing a 100k service with a drive shaft boot (should be just a complete shaft) and a set of pads, I would charge around the $1400 mark for all of that depending on what other bits need doing.

Big numbers like that - and this - scare me!

BUT my favourite letters are DIY! Spreading those jobs out over 4 or 5 weekends tends to spread the cost too, rather than one hit.

Good to see people putting up all numbers on here. This way people know what to expect at the 200k major service and budget for it.
I have picked up the car but have not paid for the service yet. Will do so next week. As I mentioned, the mechanic is a mate as well so no issues there.
One thing though, the car is soooooooo much smoother after such a major overhaul.

He would not have minded at all but a bit late for that now. I will keep it in mind for the next major service. It would mean a day's delay but not a biggie as he did provide me with a piece of junk as a replacement car.
This info should help other state members too who book their cars with DIY mechanics or get mates to help them.
I was contemplating getting all this done from you in your NSW trip but that does not seem like materialising so did not mention to you. If you do decide to come, do book me in for the injector clean as well as the fast glass (depending on price).

sorry but its just not in me to not go non genuine , but I do have a advantage working in the parts department at Mitsubishi I guess, but even my Jag got all the genuine filters etc

Thanks Trav for the plug lol
A lot of the parts I sell as you know are geuine, the belts etc are usually dayco with Koyo Bearings, the kits I have are Sun belts with Koyo bearings so pretty much the same thing
Altera, I could have saved you so much cash mate on parts but having said that, most places, including myself, will not fit supplied parts because of liability issues and warranty
