Hi Guys.
Trying to install a tranny cooler but cannot find which of the two is the return line. I have tried the temperature test but both seem to be at the same temp.
Any help appreciated

I installed one just a week ago on a TF, im 100% sure that it doesn't matter which one you use. For an afterthought genearaly the smaller one is return but i dont think they are different sizes. I also noticed they require the return line.. i just dismissed it.

Those tube and fin ones from RPW dont seem as good as they could be aswell... have a look at these

that is a hardcore one, very nice indeed.

std number but ide guess 40% more GVW than the RPW one and cheaper

I put a tranny cooler in my TH last week. The pipe you want is the one furthest from the trannie near the air con.I spun the pipe around to face the same direction as the pipe from the trannie (careful as this is a metal thing in a plastic body). I then ran my hoses around the side to the front. I used a Long Tru Cool LPD plate cooler mounted low on the opposite side to the power steering cooler.

Just a quick question.

Just wondering why people are putting these tranny coolers in their cars? Are people having overheating problems?
I have a KH and tow a 2 tonne boat to eildon every now and then. Never had any dramas with the tranny. Should i be looking into one?

I have just installed mine today. Never had an overheating problem but figured anything that will prolong the life of the tranny has to be good as the higher the fluid temp. the harder it is for it to do its job. Absolutely no performance gains out of it just the peace of mind that when flogging the car the fluid will still do its job.
As for towing I cant tell you much but my mechanic has a v8 wagon and tows his boat around. When I talked to him about fitting one he told me not to bother unless I was going to tow something with the car. Therefore my advice to you is to look further into it and decide for yourself. Generally they arent expensive (approx $100-150), and are a damn site cheaper than a rebuild.

guess it's good for hard accelerations, sporty driving as well.

I noticed that after a race-like tour in the neighbourhood it shifts like sh-t

fast accel and hard driving might heat it more but the airflow thru the std unit is also better. i guess they are for towing because ur labouring the engine/transmission and still not going very fast. I cant see the transmission coolers helping under 99/100 circumstances.

Its peace of mind, and if the tranny fluids average temp is reduced, then the fluid is going to stay better for longer, in theory leading to extended trans life and reliability. Its more to do with peace of mind though, and after all, the biggest cause of auto trans failures is over heating.

suppose and they are only cheap, cant hurt
