hey guy's

so driving home tonight from doing the shopping i noticed when i clicked to high beam me entire dash lights go out including the A/C lights, but when i click back to low beam they all come back on?. the only light on the dash when there out is the blue high beam light.

could anyone tell me if this is a common problem with the TJ's and were to start looking?
thanks in advance.

I have the blackout cluster, so its on all the time but the brightness adjuster only works for when the lights are on, turned them on one day and all the lights went out till I worked out what was going on and turned the brightness up. As for between high and low beam, not sure whats going on there.

ok so i worked out its just a fuse but when i replaced it with the equivlent 10 amp fuse it just blew straight away?? what could be causing this fult?? i have standard dash bulbs and no spotties or anything so WTF??? lol.....

was thinking it could be the indicator stalk?? bad contacts when clicking to high beam..... will try and replace it with with a second hand one to see if its the problem??

Might be a blown lamp in the dash itself or a short in the wiring, that will be the hard part, I would image you need to take out the dash look at the cable going to the dash cluster :(

If the fuse blows, it is a short somewhere. Sadly, you will have to start with the wiring diagram and find what is being served by that fuse. Isolate each item and then insert a new fuse. Keep restoring the items until you blow the fuse again. Then you know where to look. Not an easy job...

Check all the bulbs and connectors for the lights that come on when you turn them on? Maybe a light in the centre console or the backlight ring for the cig. lighter plug have shorted out? Or the plugs on the globes have somehow shorted, or the two arms that hold the filament in a bulb have touched each other somehow?

I'd try another indicator unit - wreckers should swap it. Or it could be the connector to the indicator unit. You haven't had the dash out lately?
