Hi,
My 2000 Magna 3.5 is due for service this month. My knowledge about what is required in servicing is very basic. In sept 2010 I got my car roadworthy and had a reco transmission fitted.

Can anyone tell me what are the important things I need to get serviced in my magna? How much I will be looking to pay? and if there are any good mechanics in or near Thomastown / Epping areas in Melbourne.

thanks

What you need to get serviced will depend on the amount of kilometres you have on your car and what service you're up to.

If you only recently had a reco'd transmission fitted, you should be fine, but I'd recommend changing the fluid in the auto more often than recommended (50k km). They are a weak spot on the car, so depending on the condition of the fluid, it'd pay to get it changed every 20-30k or so.

No idea about Melbourne's geography, but check our forum sponsor Mitsfix. Mal knows Magnas inside out (no exaggeration, check out his Members Machines threads) - it'd be well worth the drive to get him to service it.

Thanks Red. My car has done 120,000kms. The last service I had was at 110,000kms. It was almost a 14 months ago. I don't drive much. So I guess I will need a basic service this time around. do u agree? what does most basic services include?
thanks

Sounds like you already have done all the major servicing in the 100+K mark...your next one should be fairly minor.

If your car has done 120,000km then the first thing you need to check is if the major service at 100,000km was completed. This includes the timing belt and platinum spark plugs. If this service hasn't been done, you should look at getting it done :D
However if this major service was completed then you'll most likely just need a general service, which should cost less than $150.

I would also recommend going to Mits-fix if this is practical. I've been there and Mal knows absolutely everything to do with Magnas. He can spot things that have gone wrong or will go wrong with no effort and I've found the cost of his repairs to be half of that of normal mechanics.

If you wnat to give me a call or look at the mitsfix site, there is a fixed price servicing area there with all your answers.

Another thing to keep in mind, 14 months is a very long time, you do not drive much I understand but short runs will generally will cause a lot of condensation, mix that with sulphur when you have combustion, then you end up with sulphuric acid which is very bad news

The major service the Mal provides costs around $1000 or so from memory. But as he said, go to that section of the forums and it will have a proper price, as well as what is included.
My mum has a TW Magna and she was quoted around 700-900 for the major service from local mechanics.. The difference is, Mal used all genuine Mitsubishi parts, which are of better quality - meaning they last longer and do their respective jobs better.
If your car is in dire need of this service, I'd highly recommend taking it to Mal.

Not sure how someone could do the job for 7 to 900 even with aftermarket parts, I use aftermarket belt kit but filters etc are oem

I am sure that this quote would have been missing some vital parts lol

Hi,
and if there are any good mechanics in or near Thomastown / Epping areas in Melbourne.

Seriously dude - go to Mitsfix (Madmagna) in Heathmont. Yes it's about 45 minutes from Epping but there is seriously nobody else who knows as much about the Magna.

There are people who live interstate that send their cars to him. You LIVE in Melbourne so it would be ridiculous not to take advantage of that.

I told my mother that Mal. I'm making her give me a list of every single thing they are going to do, so I can then compare that to what you offer haha ;D
To OP, again I stress - Mitsfix.

If I was in Melbourne I'd def be going to Madmagna, just look at the ridiculously detailed info he knows about each and every model. I can guarantee that your average mechanic who's good with an oil change won't do as good a job. Always take your car to an expert, there are plenty of horror stories out there, happened to me last year :(

Like the guy who serviced my Magna before I bought it and over-tensioned the timing belt, for example.
