A question for those of you with 20" rims on your 3rd gen, what offset are you running, what width tyre, and what guard rolling etc have you had to do?

No idea on offset. Required spacers, haven't rolled guards or cut flares, scraping happens from time to time. 225's on the front. 245's on rear. Use to have 245's all round but this lead to extreme scraping so had the fronts swapped. Suggest 225's all round. With 245's on rears can't have too many heavy people on rear seat of car is undriveable. I recommend 20's

You have put forward such a convincing case on them!
Also, don't be surprised if you find after a while one or more of your rims cracked. The small tyres put heaps of stress on the rim itself.

I have 225's all round on mine..... The front scraped until I modded the guards a little, the backs scrape a bit on king lows (AWD Verada is very heavy).

225 will no probs and thats what most people go with. Ive got 245/45s on my TJ as i had to for engineering and they scrub like hell.:) Its not low unless it scrubs and bottoms out.:)

Im running 20x8.5 with 245 rubber all round on my TL AWD, never scraped once and the car is lowered so the tyres sit just on the guard.
Just drive carefully, and keep an eye out for Pot Holes, they will really F*** your rims up bad!!

You dunderhead!

Guess why the OP started this thread in the first place?

Coz he's thinking about buying my rims, and I told him that 245/30 tyres on 20"x8.5" wheels with +38 offset probably won't fit under his rear arches without scraping, unless he rolls them!

Unless his car is sitting insanely low, he shouldnt have an issue..
Thats the exact wheel size and offset of mine and they are close but dont scrape, close but they still clear my guards by about a finger width

lol yea I've told anyone that asks that 20's look brilliant and really make a car stand out. But that's also really the only positive. Every now and then I consider moving down to 18's but really the problems of scraping etc only are a problem once in a while and they do look great.

Why are you selling the 20's?

Coz I've turned into an old fart softy.

As a previous poster pointed out, on 20s with 30 profile tyres you have to keep a constant eye out for pot holes, coz they really are unfun when you you hit 'em.

And there's plenty of them on the crappy goat tracks in Adelaide that pass for 'roads'.

And the GF goes eppo when I hit one.

And 20s are more suited for young fellas, not old farts like me.

And decent replacement 20" tyres ain't cheap, while 17s are relatively cheap.

And I found some new (as in never fitted) 17" Series 3 380 VRX wheels real cheap.

And best to sell the 20s now while the tyres are in good nick with plenty of tread left on them, instead of waiting till they are worn down to the belts.

That said, I'll miss 'em. They don't ride all that bad/hard at all ('cept for those effing pot holes), and I reckon they look pretty schmick.

I remember when you got them. Not long before I got my 19's. I offered to come round and clean them for you.
Dont consider youself an oldfart just yet. I reckon I have a few years on you and I certainly wouldnt go back to stock. I agree with the comments about our SA roads. Shame they look great

Haha what KJ said. So that wheel/tyre combination shouldn't be much, if any, of a problem if I get the guards rolled? I'm on pretty good terms with one of the panel beaters here in town, got him to do a couple cashies, and he's always interested in how the cars coming along. I should be able to get it done for stuff all.

Definitely get a panel beater to roll your guards. I got a local tyre shop to do it and they did a shoddy job - apparently because of the VR-X control arms, their guard rolling machine couldn't do a complete rotation :-/ I ended up paying for a panel beater to fix their work.

My rims are 18x8" with 235 tyres and I rolled the guards as a precaution. Would have been pretty tight otherwise. IMO if your rims are wider than 7.5" you should, at the least, be prepared to have them rolled.

Advanti Stella 20 x 8.5..
Altenzo 245/30/20 all round.. (One of the very few "budget" tyres that is correctly load rated)
King Lows All round

One of the Front Left Splash Guard clips had broken off so it rubbed on that till I modified that a touch..

But other then that.. All sweet so far!

20 x 7.5 with 45 offset.
225 x 35 x 20 tyres.
No mods to front or rear guards required.
Wheels are sitting identical as were the OEM 17 x 7 46 offset wheels with 225 x 50 x 17 tyres.
