Hey guys,

Just need some quick advice.

My rear pads and rotors are in need of replacing, now im sure the rear rotors are just floating so thats not the drama.

I Need to know if I need to touch the park brake/liners while replacing the rotors and if the caliper piston will spring back when replacing the pads...

(forgive my ignorance, its been some time since I looked at brakes.)

If theres anything else I've missed please post up!

Cheers, Tim

I don't know what sort of car you have , but I would say providing that the Shoes on the hand brake are ok then you shouldn't need to touch the shoes. As the housing that covers the shoes on the new rotors should be the same size. I couldn't see why anyone would machine the hand brake housing.

When you are talking about the piston for the caliper. You will have to move it back with a G-clamp, that is for a TR anyway. I,m not sure but I think the earlier modles have a screw piston of some sort ( NOT REAL SURE ON THAT ) I'm sure magna buff would know, so I might learn something here too.

Have you thought of just getting your old rotors machined???????????. I took mine off and took them to a brake place and got them machined. ( $50 all 4 )

ok you have to get two new hub nuts
they are a one use only

the rotor and hub come off once that nut is undone and calipers off

with the rear rotor off you can inspect the
handbrake shoes

I have a G clamp to do that job

I didn't replace my shoes when I had the rotors machined. I didn't have a real close look but I thought that if you wanted to replace the shoes you wouldn't need to take the hub off,,,BUT like I said I didn't change the shoes for the hand brake.
Magna buff ,,,,,,,,,,,,which modle had this screw piston on the rears???????????????

re read the manual and it says to remove the hub and nut

if you are replacing the handbrake shoes
or if you want to look at the bearings

HB Brake shoes are still very new so they dont need to be touched - the rotors are well and truly past machining... Wheel bearings are not of concern, will have a gander when i get in there tho.

My main concern was the piston remaining in the retracted position which has been answered so thats dandy.

Ive managed to pick up DBA rotors cheap too which is great ;)
