hi im gonna get a lukey 2.25" from the cat back on monday for 200 bucks dont know the model number but i do no its a straight through exhaust and not a tri flow what i wanna know is do they take the resonator(front muffler) out or will there still be a front muffler when i get the new piping through i ask becuase my resonator thats on the car now is a lukey one and if they take the resonantor off i would rather it stay on cause i dont want it to be LOUD i just want it to be loud and with the resonator still on it it wont be so LOUD

i know i wont get any power the only way i got more power is by advancing the timing and running the car on bp ultimate i can now spin the wheel when i put my foot down on a flat street i just want a phat sound coming out the back of it not so much in it for power but im sure i might get something out of it maybe 1kw lol

perhaps just replace the muffler than and dont get the full exhaust, would save a hundred bucks.

Yeah dont expect a big power gain, especially from a 2.6 astron. I put a high flow muffler and wild cat extractors on my TP and I couldn't feel the difference in the seem of my pants. As far as sound goes, definitely leave the ressinator in, other wise you'll most likey end up with a loud but not very nice sounding car, leave ressy in for sure.

what other mods are u getting or have u got? i'd stick with a 2" mandrel bent with a hi-flow muffler. is much better, and will still give u a decent growl. ive heard of ppl getting a 2.25" exhaust without any mods and without extractors and it feels as though they have lost power... (loss of backpressure... eg, piping too big).

edit: if u just want sound... just get a hi-flow muffler. i didnt read the post properly. but yeah... if u are doing a few mods which will give u abit more power then you'd need bigger piping. the best example is a turbo needing bigger piping because of the backpressure it builds up.

i got my 2.25" cat back about a week ago (havnt used car much cos at mechanics still :()
i didnt find it that loud, had a nice enough note to it with some volume, nothing like a turbocharged machine or v8....but i was happy with it. No decrease/increase in performance as far as i can tell, but the fellas there said that they dont sell lukey becasue they dont reckon it will last and cant guarantee it, i'm not sure, eveyrones got different experiences with diff brands.

All i know is i'd rather mine then my neighbours really farty lancer zorst, eek!

ill put it this way i may be getting an apprenticship at aussie exhaust over at albion in brisbane and turning 18 i would say i would have to get at least 400 bucks a week i will definetly just get extractors for it becuase i have never earnt that much money before and i still live at home and i dont have many bills so it really wouldnt fell like a big loss if im earning more than 400 a week and then if i fell that the car has more life in it which according to the compression test it does than i will get a high flow cat but i hear they do nothing do any of you know what would cause grey smoke at heavy throttle only when im driving until i get up to 60ks whn i take of quick from the lights or something like that i think it could be the fuel fitlter what do yous think i had another forum on this but people stopped writing in it now

Not saying i like loud over nicer note, but for price i think it was the best option and i want to hear something out of it, even if it doesnt sound nicer than some other cars ($$ issue ha), i dont really expect it to.

Anyway, if we all liked the same thing we'd all have the same type of car/colour/zorst etc, or lots of turboed charades :bowrofl:

I got a 2" catback system with the resonator left on and a lukey ultraflow. Sound is not loud which I am happy with, not too much 2k rpm drone (except in small enclosed carparks) but the note is much improved.

In regards to the power issue, I found the car DID have more pickup around 2500 revs and I also got the opinion of two other people who had driven the car frequently before the mod and they agreed. Not anything major at all but still a nice side effect.

your right about that i found out 2 hundred and ****en 10 bucks but i guess ill give it a shot the guy said he would probably take me on as a trial run guy 40 hours a week i wander if i can also get youth allowance or something like thathey if i get a 2.25" exhaust i wouldnt loose any power or something like that if i dont get mods like back pressure wont be good or something like that

Don't go getting all confused with the back pressure discussion again. The less back pressure the better, but if you go too big with your piping or even just your mufflers internal piping diameter, then the exhaust gas spreads out and, cools down, and moves slower. So you get all this hot exhaust gas moving quickly through the exhaust system, then hitting a heap of slower moving cooler air, the fast moving gas is slowed down, hence more resrictions resulting in less power. This is more to do with piping size, not so much muffler size as mufflers aren't that long normally, not long enough to make that much of a difference as far as I know, when compared to a whole system or half a system (cat back) of piping that is too large.

beleiv me 400 a week aint anything special (im 18 i earn 350-400 a week depending on hours, but an easy week for me 45 hours, i try aim for 50 hours, working 2 jobs) and i just starting saving for sound system, but just had service (400 down the drain) need new tyres and brake pads (nother 600 down the drain) then i got rego (411 gone) insruance (1600 gone) so yeh even tho i working lots i dont get to spend it on making my car go good or look good or sound good

Man, you gotta start using punctuation e.g. full stops, question marks etc. It is so difficult to read your sentences. I can't tell where one idea stops and another starts! Especially since you don't use capitals.
I don't know, maybe I just too old. When I was a boy.......

i type as bad as i write so if i get a 2.25 inch from the cat back lukey straight through i shouldnt loose power is that whats being said i have advanced the timing further than 13 degrees i think so maybe that will give it enough or less back pressure dont know which way around it goes

No offense mate, but could you use some punctuation? its hard to understand what is in a sentance :bowrofl:

i dont think theres a accurate way of measuring the backpressure u need to get optimal torque, but generally teh larger u got the more top end you have... i think the stock sized piping is 1.75" or something like that. if you do most ur driving around town in low gear, maybe a 2" is better all round (with high flow muffler & cat)... if you drive on teh highway alot or jsut like to race ppl at teh lights 2.25" would be better.. or if your planning big mods later on.. maybe 2.5"

there was a dude with a lancer that tryed larger/smaller exhaust systems on his car and came out with the same results... smaller is better for torque around town.. low-midrange etc, while the larger system had better pull when overtaking on the highway (all be it marginal)

OK cool, I think 2.25" would be perfect then, later on down the track i will be getting extractors and a high flow cat convertor anyway thanks, hows the punctuation is it looking any better?
