Maybe a silly question but i thought id ask. Any ways that people know of to cut a welded exhaust off a car while its on it? Being near the fuel tank and having half a tank of fuel im cautious :S

Cheers guys

I have used an angle grinder before. If you can use a hacksaw, use a hacksaw, if you can use lots of WD40 and undo as many bolts as you can and drag the whole lot out if its one piece, then do that and work on it off the car. If your cutting the rear muffler off and welding another one on while its on the car, I'd be more worried about welding near the fuel tank or welding on a car at all in case something delicate and electrical gets fried.

its all one piece through the car then welded near the back into 2 split pipes both side of the car

How far foward do you have to go before you get to a flange join? Could you reverse it onto some ramps or put jacks under the back and take it off from where it bolts onto the cat and remove the mid and rear section as one? Im guessing your putting the purple flame magnas exhaust onto the verada?

have to get under it after work tomoro and have a proper look. Yeah if i can get it off i dont want to leave it on the car when it sells

Couldnt you just remove it from the headers back? Might be some effort but then would easily be bolt on for the next car

Has it got any goodies like a high flow cat and extractors to take as well? If the bolts don't come undone I can get you a can of nut loosener type stuff from work, supposed to be better than WD40 etc, and leave it with cruiser if you are still taking his car for a regency run soon?

is it hard to manouvre it around the mounts and stuff at the rear? i would prefer to keep it one piece :)

Might help mate cheers :D

Never done a 3rd gen, only taken one off a 2.6 astron before. Used an angle grinder as it got dark... Some places its hanging up with a figure-8 type rubber thing, a bar on the car goes through the top and a bar on the exhaust goes through the bottom. If you have too much trouble cut any of these that are in your way and replace them from a wrecker later on. Make sure the car is definately securely held up, on proper stands not on the jack, and safety glasses/goggles help stop dirt and crap falling in your eyes as you undo things. Since yours isn't original, all the bolts might not be seized on quite as hard as a 20 yr old stock one.

Not sure, as it is an aftermarket exhaust it might have different mounts. If anything around the front will be hard, advise you if you wrecking it to just pull the drive shafts out completely

i invested in a Ozito reciprocating saw from Bunnings with good metal blades. good fun and easy to use.
