I just drove home my new magna (1998 TF Executive) and it has two keys, one grey and one black. Now the grey one starts the car and opens the doors, but won't open the boot which I understand from what I have read is that its the valet key. Now the black key, which I thought it meant to be the master key, won't start the car. When you turn it, the engine tries to turn over but won't. I haven't checked yet to see if the black key unlocks the doors or boot, maybe I should huh lol. Any ideas??
Ok, it does unlock the boot. Haven't checked if it locks the glovebox, but I'm guessing it would if it unlocks the boot!

when trying to start the car with the black key hold the grey key head next to it. if the car starts the black key isn't coded to the car and u will need to take both keys to mitsubishi and have them programmed to the car.

Will try that tomorrow, thanks. Out of interest, how much does it cost to have it coded??

That's cheap, many places here want $55-$110 for it. If not more.

Hmm, Ok. So I guess it was the master key that i'd lost since the only key I have doesn't open the boot. (I had fun trying to work out how the get the jumper leads out of the boot when i had a flat battery, glove box release didn't work without power)
How much is mitsubishi going to charge for a new key for a 3rd gen? *cringe* I've given up on having a remote that works.
I got a quote from Mitsubishi of "just under $200" for the key cut and coded.
Re not being able to get in the boot without power, if you open the hatch into the boot (rear seat) there is a manual boot opening release located on the LHS of the opening that just needs to be pulled - the boot then opens..
