ok well here are some pics of the guides and tensioners from my car. as u can c they are absolutely shagged. i have put in the brand ones right next to the old ones to show u wat they are sposed to look like. enjoy i spose  just hope urs isn't like that if ur timing chain is noisy as hell...

there is also a picture of my clean head! its sparkling... they bead blasted it :D im lovin it...

and the last is of the XF weber carb. its actually smaller than the stock magna carb
still the same height but smaller length/width ways.

So what are you expecting to gain from the XF carb (eg more torque/power, throttle response, etc)?? I might install one myself lol

Ill make an adapter plate and send it off for about 30 bucks if you like

were not so much hoping for big power, more alot of torque. the head is shaved and comp is a bit higher.. the power/toque band will be alot wider and the car will rev alot easiers that is for sure. 100fwkw (flywheel booya :P) and about 250nm torque

Yeah thatld be good, if only i had a spare $30  At the moment, being a uni bum and all, mods will be progressing rather slowly due to lack of cash flow.

What do you make the adapter plate from? I was thinking of shaping a bit of aluminium to fit the top of the inlet manifold and the bottom of the XF carb.
Also does the XF carb have water cooling?(like my TP does as i found out when I took the carb off and about 2L of water came out  )

lol not in it as such, just flowing through a bit of it(internally). If you look at the top of the inlet manifold there are five holes, four for bolts and the fifth where the water comes out, theres also a return pipe somewhere on the carb itself. The way to avoid water spillage? Drain a couple of litres out of the radiator before taking the carb off

correct me if im wrong, the pre january 1988 carbies may not have it  as they changed the design of the carb for tn models and later then (according to the trusty gregory's manual)

hey... this is TM-SE-RED. im at turbo_charades house doing the adapter plate for the carby.

my stock TM carby does have water running into it. u are absolutely right Dim, there are the 5 holes on top of the inlet manifold. its interesting actually... but these will have to b blocked off on mine since the new XF carb is not water cooled.

when i put the holley carb on my motor the holley didnt need HALF the vacuum/water/fuel lines etc the original carby did

all if really needs are the basic lines.. all the rest... i got no idea what those are for

i remember seeing a fuel line connected to the factory carby that just went into the carb, then back out another pipe just below it (u-turn style)... the only possible reason i could think for this is to act as a bit of a buffer/fuel slower ..er.. mechanism, or they're usin the fuel to help cool the carby too in the hope the thing would maybe last longer

AussieFella, does it have the extra hole on top of the inlet manifold?? And if you go looking for that youll find out soon enough when you take carb off whether or not its got the water cooling, if it does youll get water dribbling onto the floor

"all if really needs are the basic lines.. all the rest... i got no idea what those are for"

pretty much, when i was trying to find the source of a misfire problem(due to a lack of pressure which ended up just being a really blocked fuel filter :doubt:) the fuel line (direct from tank through filter) instead of going into the "vapour seperator" (the shiny metal thingy with three lines going to it, 1st fuel from tank, 2nd fuel to carb, 3rd fuel return to tank, which also goes to the carb  ) went straigth into carb (which reduced the pressure loss) and the car went fine for a while until the filter was blocked even more :D .

hey all i know its an old thread yet its 5 am and i cant start work on my car till day break so im reading some older ones, the answer to the above it its the return fuel line, it runs thew there to give petty to the accelerator pump
