hey guys,
im trying to get a tr magna goin... the fuel pump wont prime/run when you turn the key, but if you undo the bolt holding a earth wire to the firewall then the pump will run constantly with the ignition on but the engine wont start.. reconnect the earth and it will start and run on the fuel in the fuel rail untill it runs out.... also if you dont do the earth bolt up fully and let the wire make a really bad contact then it will idle indefinately
what the hell's goin on? would it just be the fuel pump relay thats carked it? why does the pump run with the earth disconnected? :s
if i just wanted to hotwire the fuel pump is there any good tips anyone can give me?
cheers,
rob

nah no immobiliser, pretty sure the fuel pump relay might be bad? i can hear it clicking but it doesnt turn the pump on,
was there a test connector in the engine bay to power the pump directly or is that only 3rd gens?

Is there no same type of relay under the bonnet that you can borrow to test?

also does anyone understand how the fuel pump relay works? if it doesnt get that earth signal than the pump just runs fulltime with the ignition on.. no 30 second prime

fixed it, twas a bad connection at the relay :) one question though, an auto 2.6 tr magna should be able to chirp the tyres shouldnt it? i think the ignition timings abit out

I struggle to get wheelspin in the wet so good luck with that. Ive heard it is possible, just not for me.

Grats on fixing the problem. You must have been beyond releived!
On the topic of chirping the tyres on take off - at the lights, there is a thick white stripe that marks where you should stop before. Place the front tyres on it and give it a go. Best way I know of in the dry. And Timi... bring your car to Melb. We have tram tracks ;)

lol, well i was trying to do a ronnie rollback and gearslamming it on the gravel and they arent rotating themselves :(
haha yea heaps relieved, this magna has been sitting in my mates paddock for nearly 4 years.. just had to get a new starter and dizzy and fix the connection and shes all good.. oh yea the water hose to the throttle body was split and oil was pissing out of the base of the dipstick tube, lol gotta love magnas... i think now its worst problem is a cracked exhaust manifold
trying to do the ignition timing but cant find the mark on the pulley :(
